Isaiah 20:1

20:1 The Lord revealed the following message during the year in which King Sargon of Assyria sent his commanding general to Ashdod, and he fought against it and captured it. ¹ 

Isaiah 23:11

23:11 The Lord stretched out his hand over the sea, ² 

he shook kingdoms;

he ³  gave the order

to destroy Canaan’s fortresses. ⁴ 

Isaiah 34:12

34:12 Her nobles will have nothing left to call a kingdom

and all her officials will disappear. ⁵ 

Isaiah 37:11

37:11 Certainly you have heard how the kings of Assyria have annihilated all lands. ⁶  Do you really think you will be rescued? ⁷ 

Isaiah 39:7

39:7 ‘Some of your very own descendants whom you father ⁸  will be taken away and will be made eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.’”

[23:11]  ³ tn Heb “the Lord.” For stylistic reasons the pronoun (“he”) has been used in the translation here.

[34:12]  ³ tn Heb “will be nothing”; NCV, TEV, NLT “will all be gone.”

[37:11]  ⁴ tn Heb “Look, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all the lands, annihilating them.”

[37:11]  ⁵ tn Heb “and will you be rescued?” The rhetorical question expects the answer, “No, of course not!”

[39:7]  ⁵ tn Heb “Some of your sons, who go out from you, whom you father.”
