tahu ......... mengenal(TB)/Ketahuilah ............ tahu(TL) <03045> [And know.] Moses seems here to have addressed himself particularly to the elders, who had in their youth witnessed the wonderful works which Jehovah had wrought both for them and among them; and who were bound to remember them for their own warning, and testify them to the rising generation who had not been eye-witnesses. hajaran(TB)/pengajaran(TL) <04148> [the chastisement.] kebesaran-Nya(TB/TL) <01433> [his greatness.] kuat(TB/TL) <02389> [his mighty.] |

dilenyapkannya(TB) <05595> [to add.] A very forcible metaphor, denoting the natural progress and increasing avidity of sinful passions and depraved inclinations; which lead men to drink down iniquity as the drunkard does his liquor, without regard to the consequences. Some render, "to add thirst to drunkenness;" and then it implies the insatiableness of men's sinful passions, which hanker for more and more indulgence after the greatest excesses. jahat ......... dahaga kegenangan .... kekeringan(TB)/jahat ........ menghilangkan dahaga(TL) <07302 06771> [drunkenness to thirst. panah-Ku(TB/TL) <02671> [make mine.] berambut(TB)/raja-raja(TL) <06546> [revenges.] The word {par“th,} rendered revenges, a sense in which it never seems to be used, has rendered this passage very obscure. As the word {paira} signifies the hair of the head, both in Hebrew and Arabic, Mr. Parkhurst and others render {mairosh par“th,} "from the hairy head;" but to have this sense, the words should rather have been {mippar“th rosh,} according the Hebrew idiom. The word {far“u,} in Arabic, however, also denotes a prince or chief; and the words may be literally rendered, with the LXX., [apo kephales archonton echthron,] "from the head of the chiefs of the enemies." The hyperbaton, or transposition of words from their grammatical order, is very observable in this verse; the third member forming a continuation of the first, and the fourth of the second. |
