• [Bil 24:17] Come, And Christ The Lord Be Praising

  Come, and Christ the Lord be praising, Heart and mind to Him be raising, Celebrate His love amazing, Worthy folk of Christendom. Sin, death, hell, may all be grieving, Satan shame feel to him cleaving; We salvation free receiving, Cast our every care away. See what God for us provideth, Life that in His Son abideth, And our weary steps He guideth From earth’s woe to heav’nly joy. His soul deeply for us feeleth, He His love to us revealeth, He Who is in the heavens dwelleth Came to save us from our foe. Jacob’s star His advent maketh, Soothes the longing heart that acheth, And the serpent’s head He breaketh, Scattering the powers of hell. Op’d hath He and freedom gained us From the prison that contained us, Where much grief and sorrow pained us, And our hearts were bowed with woe. O blest hour when we receivèd From the foe who us deceivèd Liberty, when we believèd, And Thee, gracious Spirit, praised. Beauteous Infant in the manger, O befriend us! beyond danger Bring us where is turned God’s anger Where with angel hosts we’ll praise.

  What star is this, with beams so bright, More lovely than the noonday light? ’Tis sent to announce a newborn King, Glad tidings of our God to bring. ’Tis now fulfilled what God decreed, “From Jacob shall a star proceed”; And lo! the Eastern sages stand To read in heaven the Lord’s command. While outward signs the star displays, An inward light the Lord conveys, And urges them, with force benign, To seek the Giver of the sign. True love can brook no dull delay; Nor toil nor dangers stop their way Home, kindred, father land and all They leave at their Creator’s call. O, while the star of heavenly grace Invites us, Lord, to seek Thy face, May we no more that grace repel, Or quench that light which shines so well! To God the Father, God the Son, And Holy Spirit, Three in One, May every tongue and nation raise An endless song of thankful praise!

  When, marshaled on the nightly plain, The glittering hosts bestud the sky, One star alone of all the train Can fix the sinner’s wandering eye. Hark! hark! to God the chorus breaks, From every host, from every gem; But one alone the Savior speaks, It is the Star of Bethlehem. Once on the raging seas I rode, The storm was loud, the night was dark, The ocean yawned, and rudely blowed The wind that tossed my foundering bark. Deep horror then my vitals froze, Death-struck, I ceased the tide to stem; When suddenly a star arose, It was the Star of Bethlehem. It was my guide, my light, my all; It bade my dark forebodings cease; And through the storm and danger’s thrall, It led me to the port of peace. Now safely, moored, my perils o’er I’ll sing, first in night’s diadem, Forever and forevermore, The star! The Star of Bethlehem!

• [Ezr 5:11] Lift The Strain Of High Thanksgiving

  Lift the strain of high thanksgiving! Tread with songs the hallowed way! Praise our fathers’ God for mercies New to us their sons today: Here they built for Him a dwelling, Served Him here in ages past, Fixed it for His sure possession, Holy ground, while time shall last. When the years had wrought their changes, He, our own unchanging God, Thought on this His habitation, Looked on His decayed abode; Heard our prayers, and helped our counsels, Blessed the silver and the gold, Till once more His house is standing Firm and stately as of old. Entering then Thy gates with praises, Lord, be ours Thine Israel’s prayer: “Rise into Thy place of resting, Show Thy promised presence there!” Let the gracious Word be spoken Here, as once on Sion’s height, “This shall be My rest forever, This my dwelling of delight.” Fill this latter house with glory Greater than the former knew; Clothe with righteousness the priesthood, Guide its choir to reverence true; Let Thy Holy One’s anointing Here its sevenfold blessings shed; Spread for us the heavenly banquet, Satisfy Thy poor with bread. Praise to Thee, almighty Father, Praise to Thee, eternal Son, Praise to Thee, all quickening Spirit, Ever blessèd Three in One; Threefold power and grace and wisdom, Molding out of sinful clay Living stones for that true temple Which shall never know decay.

  Away! away! not a moment to linger, Haste we now with footstep free, Where those who love in the vineyard to labor, Wait for you and me. Refrain To the Sunday school rejoicing we will go, ’Tis a place where all are happy here below. Where the way of life we learn to know, And seek our home above. Away! away! where the angels are bending Lightly o’er the house of prayer. Glad hymns of praise to the Lord of the Sabbath, Sweetly echo there.
