• [Mzm 68:1] Let God Arise, And By His Might

  Let God arise, and by His might Let all His foes be put to flight; But O ye righteous, gladly sing, Exult before your God and King. Jehovah’s praises sound abroad Rejoice before the living God; Prepare the way that He may come And make the desert places bloom. A Father of the fatherless, A judge of widows in distress Is God, the God of boundless grace, Who dwells within His holy place. God frees the captive and He sends The blessedness of home and friends, And only those in darkness stay Who will not trust Him and obey. O Zion, ’tis thy God’s command That thou in strength securely stand; O God, confirm and strengthen still, Thy purposes in us fulfill. O Thou, whose glorious temple stands In Zion, famed through heathen lands, Kings shall Thy power and glory see, And bring their presents unto Thee. Thou wilt rebuke the fierce and strong Who hate the right and choose the wrong, And scatter those who peace abhor, The nations that delight in war. The heathen princes yet shall flee From idols and return to Thee; Earth’s sinful and benighted lands, To God shall soon stretch out their hands.

  Let God arise in all His might, And put the troops of hell to flight, As smoke that sought to cloud the skies Before the rising tempest flies. He comes arrayed in burning flames, Justice and Vengeance are His names; Behold His fainting foes expire, Like melting wax before the fire. He rides and thunders through the sky, His Name, Jehovah, sounds on high; Sing to His Name, ye sons of grace; Ye saints, rejoice before His face. The widow and the fatherless Fly to His aid in sharp distress; In Him the poor and helpless find A Judge that’s just, a Father kind. He breaks the captive’s heavy chain, And prisoners see the light again; But rebels that dispute His will Shall dwell in chains and darkness still. Kingdoms and thrones to God belong; Crown Him, ye nations, in your song: His wondrous names and powers rehearse; His honors shall enrich your verse. He shakes the heav’ns with loud alarms; How terrible is God in arms! In Israel are His mercies known, Israel is His peculiar throne. Proclaim Him King, pronounce Him blest; He’s your Defense, your Joy, your Rest: When terrors rise and nations faint, God is the Strength of every saint.

  Let God arise to lead forth those Who march to war! Let God arise, and all His foes Be scattered far! So Israel prayed, and Thou, O Lord, Wast with him then: Be with us now, who draw the sword For war again. Grant Thou our soldiers courage high When foes are near, To strive, to suffer, or to die Untouched by fear. Grant strength to those who mourn today Their loved ones lost, Yea, those who give their best, nor stay To count the cost. Fight Thou for us, that we may fill Thy courts with praise; Then teach us mercy, teach us still The fallen to raise. Yet more and more, as ages run, Bid warfare cease, And give to all beneath the sun Love, freedom, peace.

• [Mzm 68:1] Lord, Thy Church Hath Seen Thee Rise

  Lord, Thy Church hath seen Thee rise, To Thy temple in the skies; God, my Savior! God, my King! Still Thy ransomed round Thee sing. When, in glories all divine, Through the earth Thy Church shall shine, Kings, in prayer and praise, shall wait, Bending at Thy temple’s gate.
