  Hallelujah! Jesus lives! He is now the Living One; From the gloomy halls of death Christ, the conqueror, has gone, Bright forerunner to the skies Of His people, yet to rise. Jesus lives! Why do you weep? Why that sad and mournful sigh? He who died our Brother here Lives our Brother still on high. Lives forever to bestow Blessings on His church below. Jesus lives! • [Luk 24:23] All Ye That Seek The Lord Who Died

  All ye that seek the Lord Who died, Your God for sinners crucified, Prevent the earliest dawn, and come To worship at His sacred tomb. Bring the sweet spices of your sighs, Your contrite hearts, and streaming eyes, Your sad complaints, and humble fears; Come, and embalm Him with your tears. While thus ye love your souls t’employ, Your sorrow shall be turned to joy: Now, let all your grief be o’er! Believe, and ye shall weep no more. An earthquake hath the cavern shook, And burst the door, and rent the rock; The Lord hath sent His angel down, And he hath rolled away the stone. As snow behold his garment white, His countenance as lightning bright: He sits, and waves a flaming sword, And waits upon his rising Lord. The third auspicious morn is come, And calls your Savior from the tomb, The bands of death are torn away, The yawning tomb gives back its prey. Could neither seal nor stone secure, Nor men, nor devils make it sure? The seal is broke, the stone cast by, And all the powers of darkness fly. The body breathes, and lifts His head, The keepers sink, and fall as dead; The dead restored to life appear, The living quake, and die for fear. No power a band of soldiers have To keep one body in its grave: Surely it no dead body was That could the Roman eagles chase. The Lord of Life is risen indeed, To death delivered in your stead; His rise proclaims your sins forgiv’n, And show the living way to Heav’n. Haste then, ye souls that first believe, Who dare the Gospel-Word receive, Your faith with joyful hearts confess, Be bold, be Jesus’ witnesses.   In Thy glorious resurrection, Lord, we see a world’s erection, Man in Thee is glorified. Bliss, for which the patriarchs panted, Joys, by holy psalmists chanted, Now in Thee are verified. Oracles of former ages, Veiled in dim prophetic pages, Now lie open to the sight; Now the types, which glimmered darkling In the twilight gloom, are sparkling, In the blaze of noonday light. Isaac from the wood is risen; Joseph issues from the prison; See the Paschal Lamb which saves; Israel through the sea is landed, Pharaoh and his hosts are stranded, And o’erwhelmèd in the waves. See the cloudy pillar leading, Rock refreshing, manna feeding; Joshua fights and Moses prays; See the lifted wave-sheaf, cheering Pledge of harvest-fruits appearing, Joyful dawn of happy days. Samson see at night uptearing Gaza’s brazen gates, and bearing To the top of Hebron’s hill; Jonah comes from stormy surges, From his three-days’ grave emerges, Bids beware of coming ill. So Thy resurrection’s glory Sheds a light on ancient story; And it casts a forward ray, Beacon light of solemn warning, To the dawn of that great morning Ushering in the judgment day. Ever since Thy death and rising Thou the nations art baptizing In Thy death’s similitude; Dead to sin, and ever dying, And our members mortifying, May we walk with life renewed! • [Luk 24:27] Come Then, Thou Prophet Of The Lord

  Come then, Thou Prophet of the Lord, Thou great Interpreter divine, Explain Thine own transmitted Word: To teach, and to inspire is Thine; Thou only canst Thyself reveal: Open the Book, and loose the seal. Whate’er the ancient prophets spoke Concerning Thee, O Christ, make known, Sole subject of the sacred Book, Thou fillest all, and Thou alone; Yet there our Lord we cannot see, Unless Thy Spirit lends the key. Now, Jesu, now the veil remove, The folly of our darkened heart; Unfold the wonders of Thy love, The knowledge of Thyself impart; Our ear, our inmost soul we bow; Speak, Lord, Thy servants hearken now. Make not as Thou wouldst farther go, Our Friend, and Counselor, and Guide, But stay, the path of life to show, Still with our souls vouchsafe t’abide, Constrained by Thy own mercy stay, Nor leave us at the close of day. Come in, with Thy disciples sit, Nor suffer us to ask in vain, Nourish us, Lord, with living meat, Our souls with heavenly bread sustain; Break to us now the mystic bread, And bid us on Thy body feed.
