The present translation follows the LXX.

[10:16]  11 tn Heb “and Hadadezer sent and brought out Aram which is.”

[10:16]  12 tn Heb “from beyond the River.” The name “Euphrates” has been supplied in the translation for clarity.

[10:16]  13 tn Heb “was before them.”

[12:27]  14 sn The expression translated the water supply of the city (Heb “the city of the waters”) apparently refers to that part of the fortified city that guarded the water supply of the entire city. Joab had already captured this part of the city, but he now defers to King David for the capture of the rest of the city. In this way the king will receive the credit for this achievement.

[13:24]  15 tn Heb “your servant has sheepshearers.” The phrase “your servant” also occurs at the end of the verse.

[14:6]  16 tn Here and elsewhere (vv. 7, 12, 15a, 17, 19) the woman uses a term which suggests a lower level female servant. She uses the term to express her humility before the king. However, she uses a different term in vv. 15b-16. See the note at v. 15 for a discussion of the rhetorical purpose of this switch in terminology.

[15:26]  17 tn Heb “as [is] good in his eyes.”

[17:3]  18 tc Heb “like the returning of all, the man whom you are seeking.” The LXX reads differently: “And I will return all the people to you the way a bride returns to her husband, except for the life of the one man whom you are seeking.” The other early versions also struggled with this verse. Modern translations are divided as well: the NAB, NRSV, REB, and NLT follow the LXX, while the NASB and NIV follow the Hebrew text.
