TB NETBible YUN-IBR Ref. Silang Nama Gambar Himne

Yesaya 5:25

Konteks

5:25 So the Lord is furious 1  with his people;

he lifts 2  his hand and strikes them.

The mountains shake,

and corpses lie like manure 3  in the middle of the streets.

Despite all this, his anger does not subside,

and his hand is ready to strike again. 4

Yesaya 14:25

Konteks

14:25 I will break Assyria 5  in my land,

I will trample them 6  underfoot on my hills.

Their yoke will be removed from my people,

the burden will be lifted from their shoulders. 7

Yesaya 19:23

Konteks

19:23 At that time there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria. The Assyrians will visit Egypt, and the Egyptians will visit Assyria. The Egyptians and Assyrians will worship together. 8

Yesaya 20:4

Konteks
20:4 so the king of Assyria will lead away the captives of Egypt and the exiles of Cush, both young and old. They will be in undergarments and barefoot, with the buttocks exposed; the Egyptians will be publicly humiliated. 9

Yesaya 47:6

Konteks

47:6 I was angry at my people;

I defiled my special possession

and handed them over to you.

You showed them no mercy; 10

you even placed a very heavy burden on old people. 11

Yesaya 51:13

Konteks

51:13 Why do you forget 12  the Lord, who made you,

who stretched out the sky 13

and founded the earth?

Why do you constantly tremble all day long 14

at the anger of the oppressor,

when he makes plans to destroy?

Where is the anger of the oppressor? 15

Yesaya 56:6

Konteks

56:6 As for foreigners who become followers of 16  the Lord and serve him,

who love the name of the Lord and want to be his servants –

all who observe the Sabbath and do not defile it,

and who are faithful to 17  my covenant –

Yesaya 65:22

Konteks

65:22 No longer will they build a house only to have another live in it, 18

or plant a vineyard only to have another eat its fruit, 19

for my people will live as long as trees, 20

and my chosen ones will enjoy to the fullest what they have produced. 21

[5:25]  1 tn Heb “the anger of the Lord rages.”

[5:25]  2 tn Or “extends”; KJV, ASV “he hath stretched forth.”

[5:25]  3 tn Or “garbage” (NCV, CEV, NLT); NAB, NASB, NIV “refuse.”

[5:25]  4 tn Heb “in all this his anger is not turned, and still his hand is outstretched.”

[14:25]  5 tn Heb “to break Assyria.”

[14:25]  6 tn Heb “him.” This is a collective singular referring to the nation, or a reference to the king of Assyria who by metonymy stands for the entire nation.

[14:25]  7 tn Heb “and his [i.e., Assyria’s] yoke will be removed from them [the people?], and his [Assyria’s] burden from his [the nation’s?] shoulder will be removed.” There are no antecedents in this oracle for the suffixes in the phrases “from them” and “from his shoulder.” Since the Lord’s land and hills are referred to in the preceding line and the statement seems to echo 10:27, it is likely that God’s people are the referents of the suffixes; the translation uses “my people” to indicate this.

[19:23]  8 tn The text could be translated, “and Egypt will serve Assyria” (cf. NAB), but subjugation of one nation to the other does not seem to be a theme in vv. 23-25. Rather the nations are viewed as equals before the Lord (v. 25). Therefore it is better to take אֶת (’et) in v. 23b as a preposition, “together with,” rather than the accusative sign. The names of the two countries are understood to refer by metonymy to their respective inhabitants.

[20:4]  9 tn Heb “lightly dressed and barefoot, and bare with respect to the buttocks, the nakedness of Egypt.”

[47:6]  10 tn Or “compassion.”

[47:6]  11 tn Heb “on the old you made very heavy your yoke.”

[51:13]  12 tn Heb “and that you forget.”

[51:13]  13 tn Or “the heavens” (also in v. 16). The Hebrew term שָׁמַיִם (shamayim) may be translated “heavens” or “sky” depending on the context.

[51:13]  14 tn Heb “and that you tremble constantly all the day.”

[51:13]  15 tn The question anticipates the answer, “Ready to disappear!” See v. 14.

[56:6]  16 tn Heb “who attach themselves to.”

[56:6]  17 tn Heb “and take hold of”; NAB “hold to”; NIV, NRSV “hold fast.”

[65:22]  18 tn Heb “they will not build, and another live [in it].”

[65:22]  19 tn Heb “they will not plant, and another eat.”

[65:22]  20 tn Heb “for like the days of the tree [will be] the days of my people.”

[65:22]  21 tn Heb “the work of their hands” (so KJV, NASB, NIV, NRSV); NLT “their hard-won gains.”
