Konteks
Church Discipline

5:1 It is actually reported that sexual immorality exists among you, the kind of immorality that is not permitted even among the Gentiles, so that someone is cohabiting with 8  his father’s wife. 5:2 And you are proud! 9  Shouldn’t you have been deeply sorrowful instead and removed the one who did this 10  from among you?

1 Petrus 3:13

3:13 For 11  who is going to harm you if you are devoted to what is good?

[41:22]  1 tn Heb “As for the former things, tell us what they are!”

[41:22]  2 tn Heb “so we might set [them to] our heart.”

[41:22]  3 tn Heb “and might know their outcome.”

[66:2]  4 tn Heb “all these.” The phrase refers to the heavens and earth, mentioned in the previous verse.

[66:2]  5 tn Heb “and all these were.” Some prefer to emend וַיִּהְיוּ (vayyihyu, “and they were”) to וְלִי הָיוּ (vÿli hayu, “and to me they were”), i.e., “and they belong to me.”

[66:2]  6 tn Heb “and to this one I look” (KJV and NASB both similar).

[66:2]  7 tn Heb “to the humble and the lowly in spirit and the one who trembles at my words.”

[5:1]  8 tn Or “someone has married”; Grk “someone has,” but the verb ἔχω (ecw) is routinely used of marital relationships (cf. BDAG 420 s.v. 2.a), including sexual relationships. The exact nature of the relationship is uncertain in this case; it is not clear, for example, whether the man had actually married the woman or was merely cohabiting with her.

[5:2]  9 tn Or “are puffed up/arrogant,” the same verb occurring in 4:6, 18.

[5:2]  10 tn Grk “sorrowful, so that the one who did this might be removed.”

[3:13]  11 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “For” to indicate that what follows gives an explanation.
