TB NETBible YUN-IBR Ref. Silang Nama Gambar Himne

Yesaya 3:6-7

Konteks

3:6 Indeed, a man will grab his brother

right in his father’s house 1  and say, 2

‘You own a coat –

you be our leader!

This heap of ruins will be under your control.’ 3

3:7 At that time 4  the brother will shout, 5

‘I am no doctor, 6

I have no food or coat in my house;

don’t make me a leader of the people!’”

Yesaya 14:9

Konteks

14:9 Sheol 7  below is stirred up about you,

ready to meet you when you arrive.

all the former leaders of the earth; 9

rise from their thrones. 10

Yesaya 48:17

Konteks

48:17 This is what the Lord, your protector, 11  says,

who teaches you how to succeed,

who leads you in the way you should go.

Yesaya 48:21

he splits open a rock and water flows out.’ 13

Yesaya 49:10

Konteks

49:10 They will not be hungry or thirsty;

the sun’s oppressive heat will not beat down on them, 14

for one who has compassion on them will guide them;

he will lead them to springs of water.

Yesaya 57:18

Konteks

57:18 I have seen their behavior, 15

but I will heal them and give them rest,

and I will once again console those who mourn. 16

Yesaya 63:12

Konteks

63:12 the one who made his majestic power available to Moses, 17

who divided the water before them,

gaining for himself a lasting reputation, 18

Yesaya 63:14

Konteks

63:14 Like an animal that goes down into a valley to graze, 19

so the Spirit of the Lord granted them rest.

In this way 20  you guided your people,

gaining for yourself an honored reputation. 21

[3:6]  1 tn Heb “[in] the house of his father” (so ASV); NIV “at his father’s home.”

[3:6]  2 tn The words “and say” are supplied for stylistic reasons.

[3:6]  3 tn Heb “your hand”; NASB “under your charge.”

[3:6]  sn The man’s motives are selfish. He tells his brother to assume leadership because he thinks he has some wealth to give away.

[3:7]  4 tn Or “in that day” (KJV).

[3:7]  5 tn Heb “he will lift up [his voice].”

[3:7]  6 tn Heb “wrapper [of wounds]”; KJV, ASV, NRSV “healer.”

[14:9]  7 sn Sheol is the proper name of the subterranean world which was regarded as the land of the dead.

[14:9]  8 tn Heb “arousing.” The form is probably a Polel infinitive absolute, rather than a third masculine singular perfect, for Sheol is grammatically feminine (note “stirred up”). See GKC 466 §145.t.

[14:9]  9 tn Heb “all the rams of the earth.” The animal epithet is used metaphorically here for leaders. See HALOT 903 s.v. *עַתּוּד.

[14:9]  10 tn Heb “lifting from their thrones all the kings of the nations.” הֵקִים (heqim, a Hiphil perfect third masculine singular) should be emended to an infinitive absolute (הָקֵים, haqem). See the note on “rouses” earlier in the verse.

[48:17]  11 tn Heb “your redeemer.” See the note at 41:14.

[48:17]  12 sn See the note on the phrase “the Holy One of Israel” in 1:4.

[48:21]  13 sn The translation above (present tense) assumes that this verse describes God’s provision for returning Babylonian exiles (see v. 20; 35:6; 49:10) in terms reminiscent of the Exodus from Egypt (see Exod 17:6).

[49:10]  14 tn Heb “and the heat and the sun will not strike them.” In Isa 35:7, its only other occurrence in the OT, שָׁרָב (sharav) stands parallel to “parched ground” and in contrast to “pool.” In later Hebrew and Aramaic it refers to “dry heat, heat of the sun” (Jastrow 1627 s.v.). Here it likely has this nuance and forms a hendiadys with “sun.”

[57:18]  15 tn Heb “his ways” (so KJV, NASB, NIV); TEV “how they acted.”

[57:18]  16 tn Heb “and I will restore consolation to him, to his mourners.”

[63:12]  17 tn Heb “who caused to go at the right hand of Moses the arm of his splendor.”

[63:12]  18 tn Heb “making for himself a lasting name.”

[63:14]  19 tn The words “to graze” are supplied in the translation for clarification.

[63:14]  20 tn Or “so” (KJV, ASV), or “thus” (NAB, NRSV).

[63:14]  21 tn Heb “making for yourself a majestic name.”
