A Coming Leadership Crisis

3:1 Look, the sovereign Lord who commands armies ¹ 

is about to remove from Jerusalem ²  and Judah

every source of security, including ³ 

all the food and water, ⁴

3:16 The Lord says,

“The women ⁵  of Zion are proud.

They walk with their heads high ⁶ 

and flirt with their eyes.

They skip along ⁷ 

and the jewelry on their ankles jingles. ⁸ 

Yesaya 13:9

13:9 Look, the Lord’s day of judgment ⁹  is coming;

it is a day of cruelty and savage, raging anger, ¹⁰ 

destroying ¹¹  the earth ¹² 

and annihilating its sinners.

Yesaya 44:6

The Absurdity of Idolatry

44:6 This is what the Lord, Israel’s king, says,

their protector, ¹³  the Lord who commands armies:

“I am the first and I am the last,

there is no God but me.

Yesaya 50:6

50:6 I offered my back to those who attacked, ¹⁴ 

my jaws to those who tore out my beard;

I did not hide my face

from insults and spitting.

Yesaya 51:8

51:8 For a moth will eat away at them like clothes;

a clothes moth will devour them like wool.

But the vindication I provide ¹⁵  will be permanent;

the deliverance I give will last.”

Yesaya 59:17

59:17 He wears his desire for justice ¹⁶  like body armor, ¹⁷ 

and his desire to deliver is like a helmet on his head. ¹⁸ 

He puts on the garments of vengeance ¹⁹ 

and wears zeal like a robe.
