Yesaya 1:24

1:24 Therefore, the sovereign Lord who commands armies, ¹ 

the powerful ruler of Israel, ²  says this:

“Ah, I will seek vengeance ³  against my adversaries,

I will take revenge against my enemies. ⁴ 

Yesaya 8:7

8:7 So look, the sovereign master ⁵  is bringing up against them the turbulent and mighty waters of the Euphrates River ⁶  – the king of Assyria and all his majestic power. It will reach flood stage and overflow its banks. ⁷ 

Yesaya 30:13

30:13 So this sin will become your downfall.

You will be like a high wall

that bulges and cracks and is ready to collapse;

it crumbles suddenly, in a flash. ⁸ 

Yesaya 48:9

48:9 For the sake of my reputation ⁹  I hold back my anger;

for the sake of my prestige ¹⁰  I restrain myself from destroying you. ¹¹ 

Yesaya 57:10

57:10 Because of the long distance you must travel, you get tired, ¹² 

but you do not say, ‘I give up.’ ¹³ 

You get renewed energy, ¹⁴ 

so you don’t collapse. ¹⁵ 

Yesaya 62:1

The Lord Takes Delight in Zion

62:1 “For the sake of Zion I will not be silent;

for the sake of Jerusalem ¹⁶  I will not be quiet,

until her vindication shines brightly ¹⁷ 

and her deliverance burns like a torch.”

[8:7]  ⁵ tn The Hebrew term translated “sovereign master” here is אֲדֹנָי (’adonay).

[8:7]  ⁶ tn Heb “the mighty and abundant waters of the river.” The referent of “the river” here, the Euphrates River, has been specified in the translation for clarity. As the immediately following words indicate, these waters symbolize the Assyrian king and his armies which will, as it were, inundate the land.

[8:7]  ⁷ tn Heb “it will go up over all its stream beds and go over all its banks.”

[30:13]  ⁸ tn The verse reads literally, “So this sin will become for you like a breach ready to fall, bulging on a high wall, the breaking of which comes suddenly, in a flash.” Their sin produces guilt and will result in judgment. Like a wall that collapses their fall will be swift and sudden.
