[4:22]  1 tn These words are not in the text but are supplied in the translation to show clearly the shift in speaker. Jeremiah has been speaking; now the Lord answers, giving the reason for the devastation Jeremiah foresees.

[4:22]  2 tn Heb “For….” This gives the explanation for the destruction envisaged in 4:20 to which Jeremiah responds in 4:19, 21.

[4:22]  3 tn Heb “They are senseless children.”

[5:24]  4 tn Heb “say in their hearts.”

[5:24]  5 tn Heb “who keeps for us the weeks appointed for harvest.”

[23:11]  6 tn The particle כִּי (ki) which begins this verse is parallel to the one at the beginning of the preceding verse. However, the connection is too distant to render it “for.” “Moreover” is intended to draw the parallel. The words “the Lord says” (Heb “Oracle of the Lord”) have been drawn up to the front to introduce the shift in speaker from Jeremiah, who describes his agitated state, to God, who describes the sins of the prophets and priests and his consequent judgment on them.

[23:11]  7 tn Heb “Oracle of the Lord.”

[51:53]  8 tn Or “ascends [into] heaven.” Note the use of the phrase in Deut 30:12; 2 Kgs 2:11; and Amos 9:2.

[51:53]  9 tn Heb “and even if she fortifies her strong elevated place.”

[51:53]  10 tn Heb “from me destroyers will go against her.”

[51:53]  11 tn Heb “Oracle of the Lord.”
