Yeremia 27:5

27:5 “I made the earth and the people and animals on it by my mighty power and great strength, ¹  and I give it to whomever I see fit. ² 

Yeremia 27:18

27:18 I also told them, ³  “If they are really prophets and the Lord is speaking to them, ⁴  let them pray earnestly to the Lord who rules over all. ⁵  Let them plead with him not to let the valuable articles that are still left in the Lord’s temple, in the royal palace, and in Jerusalem be taken away ⁶  to Babylon.

Yeremia 38:27

38:27 All the officials did indeed come and question Jeremiah. ⁷  He told them exactly what the king had instructed him to say. ⁸  They stopped questioning him any further because no one had actually heard their conversation. ⁹ 

[27:5]  ¹ tn Heb “by my great power and my outstretched arm.” Again “arm” is symbolical for “strength.” Compare the similar expression in 21:5.

[27:18]  ³ tn The words “I also told them” are not in the text, but it is obvious from the fact that the Lord is spoken about in the third person in vv. 18, 19, 21 that he is not the speaker. This is part of Jeremiah’s own speech to the priests and the people (v. 16). These words are supplied in the translation for clarity.

[38:27]  ⁸ tn Heb “And he reported to them according to all these words which the king had commanded.”

[38:27]  ⁹ tn Heb “And they were silent from him because the word/matter [i.e., the conversation between Jeremiah and the king] had not been heard.” According to BDB 578 s.v. מִן 1.a the preposition “from” is significant in this construction, implying a verb of motion. I.e., “they were [fell] silent [and turned away] from him.”
