24:7 Look up, ¹  you gates!

Rise up, ²  you eternal doors!

Then the majestic king ³  will enter! ⁴

149:2 Let Israel rejoice in their Creator!

Let the people ⁵  of Zion delight in their king! ⁶ 

Mikha 4:8

4:8 As for you, watchtower for the flock, ⁷ 

fortress of Daughter Zion ⁸  –

your former dominion will be restored, ⁹ 

the sovereignty that belongs to Daughter Jerusalem.

[24:7]  ¹ tn Heb “lift up your heads.” The gates of the Lord’s dwelling place are here personified. The idiom “lift up the head” often means “be confident, bold” (see Judg 8:28; Job 10:15; Ps 83:2; Zech 1:21).

[24:7]  ⁴ tn Following the imperatives of the preceding lines, the prefixed verbal form with vav (ו) conjunctive indicates purpose or result.

[149:2]  ⁶ sn The Lord is the king here, as the parallelism in the previous line (“their creator”) indicates.

[4:8]  ⁷ tn Heb “Migdal-eder.” Some English versions transliterate this phrase, apparently because they view it as a place name (cf. NAB).

[4:8]  ⁸ sn The city of David, located within Jerusalem, is addressed as Daughter Zion. As the home of the Davidic king, who was Israel’s shepherd (Ps 78:70-72), the royal citadel could be viewed metaphorically as the watchtower of the flock.
