[8:30]  1 tn Grk “And Jesus.” Here δέ (de) has been translated as “then” to pick up the sequence of the narrative prior to the parenthetical note by the author.

[8:30]  2 tn Here δέ (de) has not been translated.

[8:30]  3 sn The name Legion means “thousands,” a word taken from a Latin term for a large group of soldiers. The term not only suggests a multiple possession, but also adds a military feel to the account. This is a true battle.

[12:13]  4 tn Here δέ (de) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence of events within the narrative.

[12:13]  5 sn Tell my brother. In 1st century Jewish culture, a figure like a rabbi was often asked to mediate disputes, except that here mediation was not requested, but representation.

[19:39]  6 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “but” to indicate the contrast present in this context. Not all present are willing to join in the acclamation.

[19:39]  7 sn See the note on Pharisees in 5:17.

[19:39]  8 sn Teacher, rebuke your disciples. The Pharisees were complaining that the claims were too great.

[23:4]  9 tn Here δέ (de) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence of events within the narrative.

[23:4]  10 tn Grk “find no cause.”

[23:4]  sn Pilate’s statement “I find no reason for an accusation” is the first of several remarks in Luke 23 that Jesus is innocent or of efforts to release him (vv. 13, 14, 15, 16, 20, 22).
