  Gentle Jesus, meek and mild, Look upon a little child; Pity my simplicity, Suffer me to come to Thee. Fain I would to Thee be brought, Dearest God, forbid it not; Give me, dearest God, a place In the kingdom of Thy grace Lamb of God, I look to Thee; Thou shalt my Example be; Thou art gentle, meek, and mild; Thou wast once a little child. Fain I would be as Thou art; Give me Thine obedient heart; Thou art pitiful and kind, Let me have Thy loving mind. Let me, above all, fulfill God my heav’nly Father’s will; Never His good Spirit grieve; Only to His glory live. Thou didst live to God alone; Thou didst never seek Thine own; Thou Thyself didst never please: God was all Thy happiness. Loving Jesus, gentle Lamb, In Thy gracious hands I am; Make me, Savior, what Thou art, Live Thyself within my heart. I shall then show forth Thy praise, Serve Thee all my happy days; Then the world shall always see Christ, the holy Child, in me.

  Jesus! dear Name, how sweet it sounds! Replete with balm for all our wounds: His Word declares His grace is free, Come, needy sinner, “Come and see.” He left the shining courts on high, Came to our world to bleed and die; Jesus the Lord hung on a tree, Come, thoughtless sinner, “Come and see.” Your sins did pierce His bleeding heart, Till death had done its dreadful part; His boundless love extends to thee, Come, trembling sinner, “Come and see.” His blood can cleanse the foulest stain, Can make the vilest sinner clean; This fountain open stands for thee, Come, guilty sinner, “Come and see.”

  Behold, the Master passeth by! O seest thou not His pleading eye? With low sad voice He calleth thee, “Leave this vain world, and follow Me.” O soul, bowed down with harrowing care, Hast thou no thought for Heaven to spare? From earthly toils lift up thine eye; Behold, the Master passeth by! One heard Him calling long ago, And straightway left all things below Counting his earthly gain as loss For Jesus and His blessèd cross. That “Follow Me” his faithful ear Seemed every day afresh to hear; Its echoes stirred his spirit still, And fired his hope, and nerved his will. God gently calls us every day: Why should we then our bliss delay? Thou, Lord, e’en now art calling me; I will leave all, and follow Thee.

  O I love to walk with Jesus Like the publicans of old, When He gathered them about Him And the blessèd tidings told; How He came to bring deliverance To the captives in distress, Take away our ev’ry burden, Giving perfect peace and rest. Refrain I will follow where He leadeth; I will pasture where He feedeth. I will follow all the way, Lord. I will follow Jesus ev’ry day. O I love to walk with Jesus Like the man of long ago Who had tarried by the wayside Near the gates of Jericho, Jesus heard his cry for mercy, Gave him back his sight that day, And immediately he followed Jesus all along the way.   The light of God is falling, Upon life’s common way; The Master’s voice is calling, “Come, walk with Me today”; No duty can seem lowly To him who lives with Thee, And all of life grows holy, O Christ of Galilee! Who shares his life’s pure pleasures, And walks the honest road, Who trades with heaping measures, And lifts his brother’s load, Who turns the wrong down bluntly, And lends the right a hand, He dwells in God’s own country, He tills the Holy Land. Where human lives are thronging In toil and pain and sin, While cloistered hearts are longing To bring the kingdom in, O Christ, the elder Brother Of proud and beaten men, When they have found each other, The kingdom will come then! Thy ransomed host in glory, All souls that sin and pray, Turn toward the cross that bore Thee; “Behold the Man!” they say; And while Thy church is pleading For all who would do good, We hear Thy true voice leading Our song of brotherhood.
