8:11 Solomon moved Pharaoh’s daughter up from the City of David ¹  to the palace he had built for her, for he said, “My wife must not live in the palace of King David of Israel, for the places where the ark of the Lord has entered are holy.”

2 Tawarikh 10:14

10:14 and followed the advice of the younger ones. He said, “My father imposed heavy demands on you; ²  I will make them even heavier. ³  My father punished you with ordinary whips; I will punish you with whips that really sting your flesh.” ⁴

16:14 He was buried in the tomb he had carved out in the City of David. ⁵  They laid him to rest on a bier covered with spices and assorted mixtures of ointments. They made a huge bonfire to honor him. ⁶

20:21 He met ⁷  with the people and appointed musicians to play before the Lord and praise his majestic splendor. As they marched ahead of the warriors they said: “Give thanks to the Lord, for his loyal love endures.” ⁸

Ahaziah’s Reign

22:1 The residents of Jerusalem ⁹  made his youngest son Ahaziah king in his place, for the raiding party that invaded the city with the Arabs had killed all the older sons. ¹⁰  So Ahaziah son of Jehoram became king of Judah.

24:20 God’s Spirit energized ¹¹  Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest. He stood up before the people and said to them, “This is what God says: ‘Why are you violating the commands of the Lord? You will not be prosperous! Because you have rejected the Lord, he has rejected you!’”

28:18 The Philistines had raided the cities of Judah in the lowlands ¹²  and the Negev. They captured and settled in Beth Shemesh, Aijalon, Gederoth, Soco and its surrounding villages, Timnah and its surrounding villages, and Gimzo and its surrounding villages.

31:5 When the edict was issued, ¹³  the Israelites freely contributed ¹⁴  the initial portion of their grain, wine, olive oil, honey, and all the produce of their fields. They brought a tenth of everything, which added up to a huge amount.

[8:11]  ¹ sn The phrase the City of David refers here to the fortress of Zion in Jerusalem, not to Bethlehem. See 2 Sam 5:7.

[10:14]  ² tc The Hebrew text reads, “I will make heavy your yoke,” but many medieval Hebrew mss and other ancient textual witnesses have, “my father made heavy your yoke.”

[10:14]  ³ tn Heb “but I will add to your yoke.”

[10:14]  ⁴ tn Heb “My father punished you with whips, but I [will punish you] with scorpions.” “Scorpions” might allude to some type of torture, but more likely it refers to a type of whip that inflicts an especially biting, painful wound.

[16:14]  ⁵ sn The phrase the City of David refers here to the fortress of Zion in Jerusalem, not to Bethlehem. See 2 Sam 5:7.
