1:8 Solomon replied to God, “You demonstrated ¹  great loyalty to my father David and have made me king in his place.

36:14 All the leaders of the priests and people became more unfaithful and committed the same horrible sins practiced by the nations. ¹⁵  They defiled the Lord’s temple which he had consecrated in Jerusalem.

36:19 They burned down the Lord’s temple and tore down the wall of Jerusalem. ¹⁶  They burned all its fortified buildings and destroyed all its valuable items.

[7:21]  ² tn Heb “and this house which was high/elevated.” The statement makes little sense in this context, which predicts the desolation that judgment will bring. Some treat the clause as concessive, “Even though this temple is lofty [now].” Others, following the lead of several ancient versions, emend the text to, “this temple will become a heap of ruins.”
