1:10 Now give me wisdom and discernment so ¹  I can effectively lead this nation. ²  Otherwise ³  no one is able ⁴  to make judicial decisions for ⁵  this great nation of yours.” ⁶

18:19 The Lord said, ‘Who will deceive King Ahab of Israel, so he will attack Ramoth Gilead and die there?’ One said this and another that.

32:14 Who among all the gods of these nations whom my predecessors annihilated was able to rescue his people from my power? ⁷

36:23 It read: “This is what King Cyrus of Persia says: ‘The Lord God of the heavens has given to me all the kingdoms of the earth. He has appointed me to build for him a temple in Jerusalem ⁸  in Judah. May the Lord your God energize you who belong to his people, so you may be able to go back there!” ⁹

[1:10]  ² tn Heb “so I may go out before this nation and come in.” The expression “go out…and come in” here means “to lead” (see HALOT 425 s.v. יצא qal.4).

[1:10]  ³ tn Heb “for.” The word “otherwise” is used to reflect the logical sense of the statement.

[1:10]  ⁴ tn Heb “who is able?” The rhetorical question anticipates the answer, “no one.”
