TB NETBible YUN-IBR Ref. Silang Nama Gambar Himne

2 Raja-raja 4:38

Konteks
Elisha Makes a Meal Edible

4:38 Now Elisha went back to Gilgal, while there was famine in the land. Some of the prophets were visiting him 1  and he told his servant, “Put the big pot on the fire 2  and boil some stew for the prophets.” 3

2 Raja-raja 10:24

Konteks
10:24 They went inside to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now Jehu had stationed eighty men outside. He had told them, “If any of the men inside get away, you will pay with your lives!” 4

2 Raja-raja 11:2

Konteks
11:2 So Jehosheba, the daughter of King Joram and sister of Ahaziah, took Ahaziah’s son Joash and sneaked 5  him away from the rest of the royal descendants who were to be executed. She hid him and his nurse in the room where the bed covers were stored. 6  So he was hidden from Athaliah and escaped execution. 7

2 Raja-raja 13:23

Konteks
13:23 But the Lord had mercy on them and felt pity for them. 8  He extended his favor to them 9  because of the promise he had made 10  to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He has been unwilling to destroy them or remove them from his presence to this very day. 11

2 Raja-raja 14:10

Konteks
14:10 You thoroughly defeated Edom 12  and it has gone to your head! 13  Gloat over your success, 14  but stay in your palace. Why bring calamity on yourself? Why bring down yourself and Judah along with you?” 15

2 Raja-raja 19:28

Konteks

19:28 Because you rage against me,

and the uproar you create has reached my ears; 16

I will put my hook in your nose, 17

and my bridle between your lips,

and I will lead you back the way

you came.”

2 Raja-raja 21:3

Konteks
21:3 He rebuilt the high places that his father Hezekiah had destroyed; he set up altars for Baal and made an Asherah pole just like King Ahab of Israel had done. He bowed down to all the stars in the sky 18  and worshiped 19  them.

2 Raja-raja 21:6

Konteks
21:6 He passed his son 20  through the fire 21  and practiced divination and omen reading. He set up a ritual pit to conjure up underworld spirits, and appointed magicians to supervise it. 22  He did a great amount of evil in the sight of the Lord, provoking him to anger. 23

[4:38]  1 tn Heb “the sons of the prophets were sitting before him.”

[4:38]  2 tn The words “the fire” are added for clarification.

[4:38]  3 tn Heb “sons of the prophets.”

[10:24]  4 tn Heb “The man who escapes from the men whom I am bringing into your hands, [it will be] his life in place of his life.”

[11:2]  5 tn Heb “stole.”

[11:2]  6 tn Heb “him and his nurse in an inner room of beds.” The verb is missing in the Hebrew text. The parallel passage in 2 Chr 22:11 has “and she put” at the beginning of the clause. M. Cogan and H. Tadmor (II Kings [AB], 126) regard the Chronicles passage as an editorial attempt to clarify the difficulty of the original text. They prefer to take “him and his nurse” as objects of the verb “stole” and understand “in the bedroom” as the place where the royal descendants were executed. The phrase בַּחֲדַר הַמִּטּוֹת (bakhadar hammittot), “an inner room of beds,” is sometimes understood as referring to a bedroom (HALOT 293 s.v. חֶדֶר), though some prefer to see here a “room where the covers and cloths were kept for the beds (HALOT 573 s.v. מִטָּת). In either case, it may have been a temporary hideout, for v. 3 indicates that the child hid in the temple for six years.

[11:2]  7 tn Heb “and they hid him from Athaliah and he was not put to death.” The subject of the plural verb (“they hid”) is probably indefinite.

[13:23]  8 tn Or “showed them compassion.”

[13:23]  9 tn Heb “he turned to them.”

[13:23]  10 tn Heb “because of his covenant with.”

[13:23]  11 tn Heb “until now.”

[14:10]  12 tn Or “you have indeed defeated Edom.”

[14:10]  13 tn Heb “and your heart has lifted you up.”

[14:10]  14 tn Heb “be glorified.”

[14:10]  15 tn Heb “Why get involved in calamity and fall, you and Judah with you?”

[19:28]  16 tc Heb “and your complacency comes up into my ears.” The parallelism is improved if שַׁאֲנַנְךְ (shaanankh), “your complacency,” is emended to שַׁאֲוַנְךְ (shaavankh), “your uproar.” See M. Cogan and H. Tadmor, II Kings (AB), 237-38.

[19:28]  17 sn The word picture has a parallel in Assyrian sculpture. See M. Cogan and H. Tadmor, II Kings (AB), 238.

[21:3]  18 sn See the note at 2 Kgs 17:16.

[21:3]  19 tn Or “served.”

[21:6]  20 tc The LXX has the plural “his sons” here.

[21:6]  21 sn See the note at 2 Kgs 16:3.

[21:6]  22 tn Heb “and he set up a ritual pit, along with conjurers.” The Hebrew אוֹב (’ov), “ritual pit,” refers to a pit used by a magician to conjure up underworld spirits. In 1 Sam 28:7 the witch of Endor is called a בַעֲלַת אוֹב (baalatov), “owner of a ritual pit.” See H. Hoffner, “Second millennium Antecedents to the Hebrew ’OñBù,” JBL 86 (1967), 385-401.

[21:6]  23 tc Heb “and he multiplied doing what is evil in the eyes of the Lord, angering.” The third masculine singular pronominal suffix (“him”) has been accidentally omitted in the MT by haplography (note the vav that immediately follows).
