[7:4]  1 tn Heb “and framed [windows in] three rows, and opening to opening three times.” The precise meaning of this description is uncertain. Another option might be, “overhung [in] three rows.” This might mean they were positioned high on the walls.

[7:25]  2 tn Heb “all their hindquarters were toward the inside.”

[5:16]  3 tc Some Greek mss of the OT read “3,600”; cf. 2 Chr 2:2, 18 and NLT.

[5:16]  4 tn Heb “besides thirty-three hundred from the officials of Solomon’s governors who were over the work, the ones ruling over the people, the ones doing the work.”

[10:17]  5 sn Three minas. The mina was a unit of measure for weight.

[10:17]  6 sn The Palace of the Lebanon Forest. This name was appropriate because of the large amount of cedar, undoubtedly brought from Lebanon, used in its construction. The cedar pillars in the palace must have given it the appearance of a forest.

[4:32]  7 tn Heb “spoke.”

[7:1]  8 tn Heb “His house Solomon built in thirteen years and he completed all his house.”

[7:5]  9 tn Heb “all of the doors and doorposts.”

[7:5]  10 sn Rectangular in shape. That is, rather than arched.

[7:5]  11 tn Heb “and all the entrances and the doorposts [had] four frames, and in front of opening to opening three times” (the precise meaning of the description is uncertain).

[15:2]  12 map For location see Map5 B1; Map6 F3; Map7 E2; Map8 F2; Map10 B3; JP1 F4; JP2 F4; JP3 F4; JP4 F4.

[15:2]  13 sn Abishalom (also in v. 10) is a variant of the name Absalom (cf. 2 Chr 11:20). The more common form is used by TEV, NLT.

[22:1]  14 tn Heb “and they lived three years without war between Aram and Israel.”

[2:11]  15 map For location see Map5 B1; Map6 F3; Map7 E2; Map8 F2; Map10 B3; JP1 F4; JP2 F4; JP3 F4; JP4 F4.

[7:12]  16 tn Or “the porch of the temple.”

[7:27]  17 tn Heb “four cubits.”

[7:27]  18 tn Heb “four cubits.”

[7:27]  19 tn Heb “three cubits.”

[11:3]  20 tn Heb “wives, princesses.”

[11:3]  21 sn Concubines were slave women in ancient Near Eastern societies who were the legal property of their master, but who could have legitimate sexual relations with their master. A concubine’s status was more elevated than a mere servant, but she was not free and did not have the legal rights of a free wife. The children of a concubine could, in some instances, become equal heirs with the children of the free wife. The usage in the present passage suggests that after the period of the Judges concubines may have become more of a royal prerogative (cf. also 2 Sam 21:10-14).

[11:3]  22 tn Heb “his wives bent his heart.”

[9:25]  23 tn Or “tokens of peace”; NIV, TEV “fellowship offerings.”

[9:25]  24 tn Heb “and he made complete the house.”

[10:22]  25 tn Heb “a fleet of Tarshish [ships].” This probably refers to large ships either made in or capable of traveling to the distant western port of Tarshish.

[10:22]  26 tn Heb “the fleet of Tarshish [ships].”

[10:22]  27 tn Heb “came carrying.”

[10:22]  28 tn The meaning of this word is unclear. Some suggest “baboons.”
