TB NETBible YUN-IBR Ref. Silang Nama Gambar Himne

Yesaya 33:23

Konteks

33:23 Though at this time your ropes are slack, 1

the mast is not secured, 2

and the sail 3  is not unfurled,

at that time you will divide up a great quantity of loot; 4

even the lame will drag off plunder. 5

Yesaya 43:14

Konteks
The Lord Will Do Something New

43:14 This is what the Lord says,

your protector, 6  the Holy One of Israel: 7

“For your sake I send to Babylon

and make them all fugitives, 8

turning the Babylonians’ joyful shouts into mourning songs. 9

Yesaya 45:8

Konteks

45:8 O sky, rain down from above!

Let the clouds send down showers 10  of deliverance!

Let the earth absorb it 11  so salvation may grow, 12

and deliverance may sprout up 13  along with it.

I, the Lord, create it. 14

Yesaya 46:6

Konteks

46:6 Those who empty out gold from a purse

and weigh out silver on the scale 15

hire a metalsmith, who makes it into a god.

They then bow down and worship it.

Yesaya 52:10

Konteks

52:10 The Lord reveals 16  his royal power 17

in the sight of all the nations;

the entire 18  earth sees

our God deliver. 19

Yesaya 59:4

Konteks

59:4 No one is concerned about justice; 20

no one sets forth his case truthfully.

They depend on false words 21  and tell lies;

they conceive of oppression 22

and give birth to sin.

[33:23]  1 tn The words “though at this time” are supplied in the translation for clarification. The first half of the verse is addressed to Judah and contrasts the nation’s present weakness with its future prosperity. Judah is compared to a ship that is incapable of sailing.

[33:23]  2 tn Heb “they do not fasten the base of their mast.” On כֵּן (ken, “base”) see BDB 487 s.v. III כֵּן and HALOT 483 s.v. III כֵּן.

[33:23]  3 tn Or perhaps, “flag.”

[33:23]  4 tn Heb “then there will be divided up loot of plunder [in] abundance.”

[33:23]  5 sn Judah’s victory over its enemies will be so thorough there will be more than enough plunder for everyone, even slow-moving lame men who would normally get left out in the rush to gather the loot.

[43:14]  6 tn Or “kinsman redeemer.” See the note at 41:14.

[43:14]  7 sn See the note on the phrase “the Holy One of Israel” in 1:4.

[43:14]  8 tn Heb “and I bring down [as] fugitives all of them.”

[43:14]  9 tn The Hebrew text reads literally, “as for the Babylonians, in ships their joyful shout.” This might be paraphrased, “even the Babylonians in the ships [over which] they joyfully shouted.” The point would be that the Lord caused the Babylonians to flee for safety in the ships in which they took such great pride. A slight change in vocalization yields the reading “into mourning songs,” which provides a good contrast with “joyful shout.” The prefixed bet (בְּ) would indicate identity.

[45:8]  10 tn Heb “let the clouds drip with”; KJV “let the skies pour down.”

[45:8]  11 tn Heb “open up” (so NASB); NIV, NLT “open wide.”

[45:8]  12 tc The plural verb should be emended to a singular form. The vav (ו) ending is probably virtually dittographic (note the yod at the beginning of the following word).

[45:8]  13 tc The Hiphil verb form (תַצְמִיחַ, tatsmiakh) should probably be emended to a Qal (תִצְמַח, titsmakh). The יח sequence at the end of the form is probably due to dittography (note the following יַחַד, yakhad).

[45:8]  14 tn The masculine singular pronominal suffix probably refers back to יָשַׁע (yasha’, “salvation”).

[46:6]  15 tn Heb “the reed,” probably referring to the beam of a scales. See BDB 889 s.v. קָנֶה 4.c.

[52:10]  16 tn Heb “lays bare”; NLT “will demonstrate.”

[52:10]  17 tn Heb “his holy arm.” This is a metonymy for his power.

[52:10]  18 tn Heb “the remote regions,” which here stand for the extremities and everything in between.

[52:10]  19 tn Heb “the deliverance of our God.” “God” is a subjective genitive here.

[59:4]  20 tn Heb “no one pleads with justice.”

[59:4]  21 tn Heb “nothing”; NAB “emptiness.”

[59:4]  22 tn Or “trouble” (NIV), or “harm.”
