Yesaya 15:5
Konteks15:5 My heart cries out because of Moab’s plight, 1
and for the fugitives 2 stretched out 3 as far as Zoar and Eglath Shelishiyah.
For they weep as they make their way up the ascent of Luhith;
they loudly lament their demise on the road to Horonaim. 4
Yesaya 49:6
Konteks49:6 he says, “Is it too insignificant a task for you to be my servant,
to reestablish the tribes of Jacob,
and restore the remnant 5 of Israel? 6
I will make you a light to the nations, 7
so you can bring 8 my deliverance to the remote regions of the earth.”
Yesaya 49:25
Konteks49:25 Indeed,” says the Lord,
“captives will be taken from a warrior;
spoils will be rescued from a conqueror.
I will oppose your adversary
and I will rescue your children.
Yesaya 51:3
Konteks51:3 Certainly the Lord will console Zion;
he will console all her ruins.
He will make her wilderness like Eden,
her desert like the Garden of the Lord.
Happiness and joy will be restored to 9 her,
thanksgiving and the sound of music.
Yesaya 60:9
Konteks60:9 Indeed, the coastlands 10 look eagerly for me,
the large ships 11 are in the lead,
bringing your sons from far away,
along with their silver and gold,
to honor the Lord your God, 12
the Holy One of Israel, 13 for he has bestowed honor on you.
[15:5] 1 tn Heb “for Moab.” For rhetorical purposes the speaker (the Lord?, see v. 9) plays the role of a mourner.
[15:5] 2 tn The vocalization of the Hebrew text suggests “the bars of her gates,” but the form should be repointed to yield, “her fugitives.” See HALOT 156-57 s.v. בָּרִחַ, and BDB 138 s.v. בָּרִיהַ.
[15:5] 3 tn The words “are stretched out” are supplied in the translation for stylistic reasons.
[15:5] 4 tn Heb “For the ascent of Luhith, with weeping they go up it; for [on] the road to Horonaim an outcry over shattering they raise up.”
[49:6] 5 tn Heb “the protected [or “preserved”] ones.”
[49:6] 6 sn The question is purely rhetorical; it does not imply that the servant was dissatisfied with his commission or that he minimized the restoration of Israel.
[49:6] 7 tn See the note at 42:6.
[49:6] 8 tn Heb “be” (so KJV, ASV); CEV “you must take.”
[51:3] 9 tn Heb “found in” (so NAB, NASB, NIV, NRSV).
[60:9] 10 tn Or “islands” (NIV); CEV “distant islands”; TEV “distant lands.”
[60:9] 11 tn Heb “the ships of Tarshish.” See the note at 2:16.
[60:9] 12 tn Heb “to the name of the Lord your God.”
[60:9] 13 sn See the note on the phrase “the Holy One of Israel” in 1:4.
