[3:6]  1 tn Grk “they were being baptized by him.” The passive construction has been rendered as active in the translation for the sake of English style.

[6:17]  2 tn Here δέ (de) has not been translated.

[14:1]  3 sn A tetrarch, a ruler with rank and authority lower than a king, ruled only with the approval of the Roman authorities. This was roughly equivalent to being governor of a region. Several times in the NT, Herod, tetrarch of Galilee, is called a king (Matt 14:9, Mark 6:14-29), reflecting popular usage rather than an official title.

[15:38]  4 tc ‡ Although most witnesses (B C L W Ë13 33 Ï f sys,p,h mae) read “women and children” instead of “children and women,” it is likely that the majority’s reading is a harmonization to Matt 14:21. “Children and women” is found in early and geographically widespread witnesses (e.g., א D [Θ Ë1] 579 lat syc sa bo), and has more compelling internal arguments on its side, suggesting that this is the original reading. NA27, however, agrees with the majority of witnesses.

[15:38]  5 tn Grk “And those eating were four thousand men, apart from children and women.”

[17:6]  6 tn Grk “they fell down on their faces.” BDAG 815 s.v. πίπτω 1.b.α.ב. has “fall down, throw oneself to the ground as a sign of devotion, before high-ranking persons or divine beings.”

[20:11]  7 tn Here δέ (de) has not been translated.

[20:11]  8 tn The imperfect verb ἐγόγγυζον (egonguzon) has been translated ingressively.

[20:24]  9 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “now” to indicate the transition to a new topic.

[20:24]  10 tn Grk “the ten.”

[20:24]  11 tn The word “this” is not in the Greek text, but is supplied. Direct objects were often omitted in Greek when clear from the context.

[20:29]  12 map For location see Map5 B2; Map6 E1; Map7 E1; Map8 E3; Map10 A2; Map11 A1.

[22:22]  13 tn Grk “they were amazed; they marveled.”

[25:6]  14 tc ‡ Most witnesses have αὐτοῦ (autou, “[with] him”) after ἀπάντησιν (apanthsin, “meeting”), a reading which makes explicit what is already implied in the shorter text (as found in א B 700). The translation likewise adds “him” for clarity’s sake even though the word is not considered part of the original text. NA27 has αὐτοῦ in brackets, indicating doubts as to its authenticity.

[26:1]  15 tn Grk “And it happened when.” The introductory phrase καὶ ἐγένετο (kai egeneto, “it happened that”) is redundant in contemporary English and has not been translated.
