So Gideon took ten of his servants 1 and did just as the Lord had told him. He was too afraid of his father’s family 2 and the men of the city to do it in broad daylight, so he waited until nighttime. 3
and said, “God forbid that I should do this! 1 Should I drink the blood of these men who risked their lives?” 2 Because they risked their lives to bring it to him, he refused to drink it. Such were the exploits of the three elite warriors. 3
You must 1 observe the Sabbath 2 rather than doing anything you please on my holy day. 3 You must look forward to the Sabbath 4 and treat the Lord’s holy day with respect. 5 You must treat it with respect by refraining from your normal activities, and by refraining from your selfish pursuits and from making business deals. 6
They will be like a tree planted near a stream whose roots spread out toward the water. It has nothing to fear when the heat comes. Its leaves are always green. It has no need to be concerned in a year of drought. It does not stop bearing fruit.
He said to me, “Do you see, son of man? Is it a trivial thing that the house of Judah commits these abominations they are practicing here? For they have filled the land with violence and provoked me to anger still further. Look, they are putting the branch to their nose! 1
