<t /><p class="bodytext">The <sc>Lordsc> spoke to the prophet Jeremiah<n id="1" /> about the Philistines before Pharaoh attacked Gaza.<n id="2" />p>

So see here, I have stretched out my hand against you and cut off your rations. I have delivered you into the power of those who hate you, the daughters of the Philistines, who were ashamed by your obscene conduct.

before your evil was exposed? Now you have become an object of scorn to the daughters of Aram<n id="1" /> and all those around her and to the daughters of the Philistines &#8211; those all around you who despise you.

<p class="poetry">I will remove<n id="1" /> the ruler<n id="2" /> from Ashdod,<n id="3" />p> <p class="poetry">the one who holds the royal scepter from Ashkelon.<n id="4" />p> <p class="poetry">I will strike Ekron<n id="5" /> with my hand;<n id="6" />p> <p class="poetry">the rest of the Philistines will also die.&#8221;<n id="7" />p> <p class="poetry">The sovereign <sc>Lordsc> has spoken!p>

<p class="poetry">They say to the people:<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">&#8220;Journey over to Calneh and look at it!p> <p class="poetry">Then go from there to Hamath-Rabbah!<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">Then go down to Gath of the Philistines!p> <p class="poetry">Are they superior to our two<n id="3" /> kingdoms?p> <p class="poetry">Is their territory larger than yours?&#8221;<n id="4" />p>

<p class="poetry">The people of the Negev<n id="1" /> will take possession<n id="2" /> of Esau&#8217;s mountain,p> <p class="poetry">and the people of the Shephelah<n id="3" /> will takep> <p class="poetry">possession<n id="4" /> of the land of<n id="5" /> the Philistines.p> <p class="poetry">They will also take possession of the territory of Ephraim and the territory of Samaria,p> <p class="poetry">and the people of Benjamin will take possession<n id="6" /> of Gilead.<n id="7" />p>

<p class="poetry">Those who live by the sea, the people who came from Crete,<n id="1" /> are as good as dead.<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">The <sc>Lordsc> has decreed your downfall,<n id="3" /> Canaan, land of the Philistines:p> <p class="poetry">&#8220;I will destroy everyone who lives there!&#8221;<n id="4" />p>

<p class="bodytext">The leaders of the Philistines asked, &#8220;What about these Hebrews?&#8221; Achish said to the leaders of the Philistines, &#8220;Isn&#8217;t this David, the servant of King Saul of Israel, who has been with me for quite some time?<n id="1" /> I have found no fault with him from the day of his defection until the present time!&#8221;<n id="2" />p>
