<p class="bodytext">Then the <sc>Lordsc> said to me,<n id="1" />

<p class="bodytext">Then I said,<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">&#8220;<sc>Lordsc>, pay attention to me.p> <p class="poetry">Listen to what my enemies are saying.<n id="2" />p>

<p class="bodytext">The <sc>Lordsc> said to me,<n id="1" />

<p class="bodytext">Then Jeremiah made his defense before all the officials and all the people.<n id="1" /> &#8220;The <sc>Lordsc> sent me to prophesy everything you have heard me say against this temple and against this city.

<t /><p class="bodytext">The prophet Jeremiah sent a letter to the exiles Nebuchadnezzar had carried off from Jerusalem<n id="1" /> to Babylon. It was addressed to the elders who were left among the exiles, to the priests, to the prophets, and to all the other people who were exiled in Babylon.<n id="2" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">The <sc>Lordsc> told Jeremiah, &#8220;Tell<n id="1" /> Shemaiah the Nehelamite<n id="2" />

Then the <sc>Lordsc> spoke to Jeremiah.

<t /><p class="bodytext">The <sc>Lordsc> answered Jeremiah.<n id="1" />

<p class="bodytext">The <sc>Lordsc> spoke further to Jeremiah.<n id="1" />

<p class="bodytext">The <sc>Lordsc> spoke still further to Jeremiah.<n id="1" />

<p class="bodytext">Then the <sc>Lordsc> spoke to Jeremiah.

The officials may hear that I have talked with you. They may come to you and say, &#8216;Tell us what you said to the king and what the king said to you.<n id="1" /> Do not hide anything from us. If you do, we will kill you.&#8217;<n id="2" />

<p class="bodytext">Then the <sc>Lordsc> said to me, &#8220;Even if Moses and Samuel stood before me pleading for<n id="1" /> these people, I would not feel pity for them!<n id="2" /> Get them away from me! Tell them to go away!<n id="3" />

Go out to the part of the Hinnom Valley which is near the entrance of the Potsherd Gate.<n id="1" /> Announce there what I tell you.<n id="2" />

Tell them that the <sc>Lordsc> says,<n id="1" /> &#8216;You must obey me! You must live according to the way I have instructed you in my laws.<n id="2" />

and they brought Uriah back from there.<n id="1" /> They took him to King Jehoiakim, who had him executed and had his body thrown into the burial place of the common people.<n id="2" />p>

Charge them to give their masters a message from me. Tell them, &#8216;The <sc>Lordsc> God of Israel who rules over all<n id="1" /> says to give your masters this message.<n id="2" />

Do not listen to the prophets who are telling you that you do not need to serve<n id="1" /> the king of Babylon. For they are prophesying lies to you.

&#8220;The <sc>Lordsc> God of Israel says,<n id="1" /> &#8216;Write everything that I am about to tell you in a scroll.<n id="2" />
