The thin heads of grain swallowed up the seven good heads of grain. So I told all this<n id="1" /> to the diviner-priests, but no one could tell me its meaning.&#8221;<n id="2" />p>

<p class="bodytext">Then Joseph said to Pharaoh, &#8220;Both dreams of Pharaoh have the same meaning.<n id="1" /> God has revealed<n id="2" /> to Pharaoh what he is about to do.<n id="3" />

The dream was repeated to Pharaoh<n id="1" /> because the matter has been decreed<n id="2" /> by God, and God will make it happen soon.<n id="3" />p>

So Pharaoh said to Joseph, &#8220;Because God has enabled you to know all this, there is no one as wise and discerning<n id="1" /> as you are!

Pharaoh also said to Joseph, &#8220;I am Pharaoh, but without your permission<n id="1" /> no one<n id="2" /> will move his hand or his foot<n id="3" /> in all the land of Egypt.&#8221;

Then Joseph remembered<n id="1" /> the dreams he had dreamed about them, and he said to them, &#8220;You are spies; you have come to see if our land is vulnerable!&#8221;<n id="2" />p>

Reuben said to them, &#8220;Didn&#8217;t I say to you, &#8216;Don&#8217;t sin against the boy,&#8217; but you wouldn&#8217;t listen? So now we must pay for shedding his blood!&#8221;<n id="1" />

<p class="bodytext">Then Joseph gave orders to fill<n id="1" /> their bags with grain, to return each man&#8217;s money to his sack, and to give them provisions for the journey. His orders were carried out.<n id="2" />

<p class="bodytext">They returned to their father Jacob in the land of Canaan and told him all the things that had happened to them, saying,

Their father Jacob said to them, &#8220;You are making me childless! Joseph is gone.<n id="1" /> Simeon is gone.<n id="2" /> And now you want to take<n id="3" /> Benjamin! Everything is against me.&#8221;p>

When they finished eating the grain they had brought from Egypt, their father said to them, &#8220;Return, buy us a little more food.&#8221;p>

<p class="bodytext">But Judah said to him, &#8220;The man solemnly warned<n id="1" /> us, &#8216;You will not see my face<n id="2" /> unless your brother is with you.&#8217;

But if you will not send him, we won&#8217;t go down there because the man said to us, &#8216;You will not see my face unless your brother is with you.&#8217;&#8221;p>

I myself pledge security<n id="1" /> for him; you may hold me liable. If I do not bring him back to you and place him here before you, I will bear the blame before you all my life.<n id="2" />

But when we came to the place where we spent the night, we opened our sacks and each of us found his money &#8211; the full amount<n id="1" /> &#8211; in the mouth of his sack. So we have returned it.<n id="2" />

Joseph hurried out, for he was overcome by affection for his brother<n id="1" /> and was at the point of tears.<n id="2" /> So he went to his room and wept there.p>

He gave them portions of the food set before him,<n id="1" /> but the portion for Benjamin was five times greater than the portions for any of the others. They drank with Joseph until they all became drunk.<n id="2" />p>

Look, the money that we found in the mouths of our sacks we brought back to you from the land of Canaan. Why then would we steal silver or gold from your master&#8217;s house?

We said to my lord, &#8216;We have an aged father, and there is a young boy who was born when our father was old.<n id="1" /> The boy&#8217;s<n id="2" /> brother is dead. He is the only one of his mother&#8217;s sons left,<n id="3" /> and his father loves him.&#8217;p>

We said to my lord, &#8216;The boy cannot leave his father. If he leaves his father, his father<n id="1" /> will die.&#8217;<n id="2" />
