<p class="poetry">The <sc>Lordsc> lift up his countenance upon you<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">and give you peace.&#8221;&#8217;p>

<p class="poetry">If<n id="1" /> I say,<n id="2" /> &#8220;My bed will comfort me,<n id="3" />p> <p class="poetry">my couch will ease<n id="4" /> my complaint,&#8221;p>

<p class="poetry">Such godly people are rewarded by the <sc>Lordsc>,<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">and vindicated by the God who delivers them.<n id="2" />p>

<p class="poetry">He will not cry out or shout;p> <p class="poetry">he will not publicize himself in the streets.<n id="1" />p>

and the one who eats it will bear his punishment for iniquity<n id="1" /> because he has profaned<n id="2" /> what is holy to the <sc>Lordsc>.<n id="3" /> That person will be cut off from his people.<n id="4" />p>

a nation of stern appearance that will have no regard for the elderly or pity for the young.

<p class="poetry">Surely he loves the people;<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">all your holy ones<n id="2" /> are in your power.<n id="3" />p> <p class="poetry">And they sit<n id="4" /> at your feet,p> <p class="poetry">each receiving<n id="5" /> your words.p>

<p class="poetry">He will not consider<n id="1" /> any compensation;<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">he will not be willing, even if you multiply the compensation.<n id="3" />p>

<p class="poetry">Like a shepherd he tends his flock;p> <p class="poetry">he gathers up the lambs with his arm;p> <p class="poetry">he carries them close to his heart;<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">he leads the ewes along.p>

<p class="poetry">Why do you force me to witness injustice?<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">Why do you put up with wrongdoing?<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">Destruction and violence confront<n id="3" /> me;p> <p class="poetry">conflict is present and one must endure strife.<n id="4" />p>

The person who sins is the one who will die. A son will not suffer<n id="1" /> for his father&#8217;s iniquity, and a father will not suffer<n id="2" /> for his son&#8217;s iniquity; the righteous person will be judged according to his righteousness, and the wicked person according to his wickedness.<n id="3" />p>

In three more days Pharaoh will decapitate you<n id="1" /> and impale you on a pole. Then the birds will eat your flesh from you.&#8221;p>

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;You shall not take<n id="1" /> the name of the <sc>Lordsc> your God in vain,<n id="2" /> for the <sc>Lordsc> will not hold guiltless<n id="3" /> anyone who takes his name in vain.p>

Take heed because of him, and obey his voice; do not rebel against him, for he will not pardon your transgressions, for my name<n id="1" /> is in him.

You must not make use of the name of the <sc>Lordsc> your God for worthless purposes,<n id="1" /> for the <sc>Lordsc> will not exonerate anyone who abuses his name that way.<n id="2" />

The <sc>Lordsc> will raise up a distant nation against you, one from the other side of the earth<n id="1" /> as the eagle flies,<n id="2" /> a nation whose language you will not understand,

<p class="poetry">Just as he came forth from his mother's womb, naked will he return as he came,p> <p class="poetry">and he will take nothing in his hand that he may carry away from his toil.p>

<p class="poetry">At that time<n id="1" /> the brother will shout,<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">&#8216;I am no doctor,<n id="3" />p> <p class="poetry">I have no food or coat in my house;p> <p class="poetry">don&#8217;t make me a leader of the people!&#8217;&#8221;p>

for before the child knows how to cry out, &#8216;My father&#8217; or &#8216;My mother,&#8217; the wealth of Damascus and the plunder of Samaria<n id="1" /> will be carried off by the king of Assyria.&#8221;<n id="2" />p>
