The chief priests and the experts in the law<n id="1" /> were there, vehemently accusing him.<n id="2" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> Pilate called together the chief priests, the<n id="2" /> rulers, and the people,

during the high priesthood<n id="1" /> of Annas and Caiaphas, the word<n id="2" /> of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the wilderness.<n id="3" />

The<n id="1" /> chief priests and the experts in the law<n id="2" /> were trying to find some way<n id="3" /> to execute<n id="4" /> Jesus,<n id="5" /> for they were afraid of the people.<n id="6" />p>

He went away and discussed with the chief priests and officers of the temple guard<n id="1" /> how he might<n id="2" /> betray Jesus,<n id="3" /> handing him over to them.<n id="4" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> they arrested<n id="2" /> Jesus,<n id="3" /> led him away, and brought him into the high priest&#8217;s house.<n id="4" /> But Peter was following at a distance.

Then<n id="1" /> Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, &#8220;I find no basis for an accusation<n id="2" /> against this man.&#8221;

and how our chief priests and rulers handed him over<n id="1" /> to be condemned to death, and crucified<n id="2" /> him.

<p class="bodytext">Jesus<n id="1" /> was teaching daily in the temple courts. The chief priests and the experts in the law<n id="2" /> and the prominent leaders among the people were seeking to assassinate<n id="3" /> him,

Then<n id="1" /> one of them<n id="2" /> struck the high priest&#8217;s slave,<n id="3" /> cutting off his right ear.

Then<n id="1" /> Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard,<n id="2" /> and the elders who had come out to get him, &#8220;Have you come out with swords and clubs like you would against an outlaw?<n id="3" />

<p class="bodytext">When day came, the council of the elders of the people gathered together, both the chief priests and the experts in the law.<n id="1" /> Then<n id="2" /> they led Jesus<n id="3" /> away to their council<n id="4" />

saying, &#8220;The Son of Man must suffer<n id="1" /> many things and be rejected by the elders,<n id="2" /> chief priests, and experts in the law,<n id="3" /> and be killed, and on the third day be raised.&#8221;<n id="4" />p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now one<n id="1" /> day, as Jesus<n id="2" /> was teaching the people in the temple courts<n id="3" /> and proclaiming<n id="4" /> the gospel, the chief priests and the experts in the law<n id="5" /> with the elders came up<n id="6" />

Then<n id="1" /> the experts in the law<n id="2" /> and the chief priests wanted to arrest<n id="3" /> him that very hour, because they realized he had told this parable against them. But<n id="4" /> they were afraid of the people.p>
