[2:4]  1 tn Heb “The woman took the two men and hid him.” The third masculine singular pronominal suffix on “hid” has to be a scribal error (see GKC §135.p).

[2:4]  2 tn Heb “the men came to me.” See the note on this phrase in v. 3.

[8:14]  3 tn Heb “When the king of Ai saw, the men of Ai hurried and rose early and went out to meet Israel for battle, he and all his people at the meeting place before the Arabah.”

[8:14]  4 tn Or “know.”

[8:14]  5 tn Heb “that (there was) an ambush for him behind the city.”

[8:24]  6 tn Heb “residents.”

[8:24]  7 tn Heb “in the field, in the desert in which they chased them.”

[8:24]  8 tc Heb “and all of them fell by the edge of the sword until they were destroyed.” The LXX omits the words, “and all of them fell by the edge of the sword.” They may represent a later scribal addition.

[10:24]  9 tn Heb “Joshua.” The translation has replaced the proper name with the pronoun (“he”) because a repetition of the proper name here would be redundant according to English style.

[10:24]  10 tn Or “Draw near.”

[10:24]  11 tn Or “drew near.”

[11:6]  12 tn Heb “burn with fire”; the words “with fire” are redundant in English and have not been included in the translation.

[11:8]  13 map For location see Map1 A1; JP3 F3; JP4 F3.

[11:8]  14 tn The meaning of the Hebrew name “Misrephoth Maim” is perhaps “lime-kilns by the water” (see HALOT 2:641).

[11:23]  15 tn Heb “took.”

[11:23]  16 tn Heb “according to all which the Lord said to Moses.” The translation assumes this refers to the promise of the land (see 1:3). Another possibility is that it refers to the Lord’s instructions, in which case the phrase could be translated, “just as the Lord had instructed Moses” (so NLT; cf. also NIV “had directed Moses”).

[11:23]  17 tn Heb “and Joshua gave it for an inheritance to Israel according to their allotted portions by their tribes.”

[12:7]  18 tn Heb “Joshua gave it to the tribes of Israel as a possession according to their allotted portions.”

[22:7]  19 tn Heb “to their tents.”

[22:7]  20 tn Heb “blessed.”

[22:9]  21 tn Heb “returned and went from the sons of Israel, from Shiloh which is in the land of Canaan, to go to the land of Gilead, to the land of their possession.”
