[6:2]  1 tn Heb “I have given into your hand Jericho.” The Hebrew verb נָתַתִּי (natatti, “I have given”) is probably best understood as a perfect of certitude, indicating the certainty of the action. The Hebrew pronominal suffix “your” is singular, being addressed to Joshua as the leader and representative of the nation. To convey to the modern reader what is about to happen and who is doing it, the translation “I am about to defeat Jericho for you” has been used.

[7:10]  2 tn Heb “said.”

[7:10]  3 tn Heb “Why are you falling on your face?”

[7:16]  4 tn Heb “by tribes.”

[7:23]  5 tn Heb “poured out,” probably referring to the way the silver pieces poured out of their container.

[8:10]  6 tn Or “summoned, mustered.”

[8:10]  7 tn Heb “the people.”

[8:10]  8 tn Or “elders.”

[8:10]  9 tn Heb “went up.”

[8:10]  10 tn Heb “them” (referring to “the people” in the previous clause, which requires a plural pronoun). Since the translation used “army” in the previous clause, a singular pronoun (“it”) is required in English.

[8:27]  11 tn Heb “according to the word of the Lord which he commanded Joshua.”

[10:4]  12 tn Heb “Come up to me and help me.”

[10:7]  13 tn Heb “And Joshua went up from Gilgal, he and all the people of war with him, and all the brave warriors.”

[10:22]  14 tn Heb “these five kings.”

[10:31]  15 tn Heb “encamped against it.”

[11:9]  16 tn Heb “burned with fire”; the words “with fire” are redundant in English and have not been included in the translation.

[11:13]  17 tn Heb “standing on their mounds.”

[11:13]  18 map For location see Map1 D2; Map2 D3; Map3 A2; Map4 C1.

[24:24]  19 tn Or “will serve.”

[24:24]  20 tn Heb “and listen to his voice.”

[24:29]  21 tn Heb “after these things.”
