Yohanes 4:35-36

4:35 Don’t you say, ¹  ‘There are four more months and then comes the harvest?’ I tell you, look up ²  and see that the fields are already white ³  for harvest! 4:36 The one who reaps receives pay ⁴  and gathers fruit for eternal life, so that the one who sows and the one who reaps can rejoice together.

6:52 Then the Jews who were hostile to Jesus ⁵  began to argue with one another, ⁶  “How can this man ⁷  give us his flesh to eat?”

[4:35]  ² tn Grk “lift up your eyes” (an idiom). BDAG 357 s.v. ἐπαίρω 1 has “look up” here.

[4:36]  ⁴ tn Or “a reward”; see L&N 38.14 and 57.173. This is something of a wordplay.

[6:52]  ⁵ tn Grk “Then the Jews began to argue.” Here the translation restricts the phrase to those Jews who were hostile to Jesus (cf. BDAG 479 s.v. ᾿Ιουδαῖος 2.e.β), since the “crowd” mentioned in 6:22-24 was almost all Jewish (as suggested by their addressing Jesus as “Rabbi” (6:25). See also the note on the phrase “the Jews who were hostile to Jesus” in v. 41.
