Yohanes 4:17

4:17 The woman replied, ¹  “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “Right you are when you said, ²  ‘I have no husband,’ ³

16:18 So they kept on repeating, ⁴  “What is the meaning of what he says, ⁵  ‘In a little while’? ⁶  We do not understand ⁷  what he is talking about.” ⁸ 

[4:17]  ¹ tn Grk “answered and said to him.”

[4:17]  ² tn Grk “Well have you said.”

[4:17]  ³ tn The word order in Jesus’ reply is reversed from the woman’s original statement. The word “husband” in Jesus’ reply is placed in an emphatic position.

[16:18]  ⁴ tn Grk “they kept on saying.”

[16:18]  ⁵ tn Grk “What is this that he says.”

[16:18]  ⁶ tn Grk “A little while.” Although the phrase τὸ μικρόν (to mikron) in John 16:18 could be translated simply “a little while,” it was translated “in a little while” to maintain the connection to John 16:16, where it has the latter meaning in context.

[16:18]  ⁷ tn Or “we do not know.”
