[13:8]  5 tn Heb “their faces are faces of flames.” Their faces are flushed with fear and embarrassment.

[29:22]  6 tn Heb “So this is what the Lord says to the house of Jacob, the one who ransomed Abraham.” The relative pronoun must refer back to “the Lord,” not to the immediately preceding “Jacob.” It is uncertain to what event in Abraham’s experience this refers. Perhaps the name “Abraham” stands here by metonymy for his descendants through Jacob. If so, the Exodus is in view.

[29:22]  7 tn Heb “and his face will no longer be pale.”

[52:14]  8 tn Some witnesses read “him,” which is more consistent with the context, where the servant is spoken about, not addressed. However, it is possible that the Lord briefly addresses the servant here. The present translation assumes the latter view and places the phrase in parentheses.

[52:14]  9 tn Heb “such was the disfigurement.” The noun מִשְׁחַת (mishkhat) occurs only here. It may be derived from the verbal root שָׁחַת (shakhat, “be ruined”; see BDB 1007-8 s.v. שָׁחַת). The construct form appears here before a prepositional phrase (cf. GKC 421 §130.a).

[52:14]  10 tn Heb “from a man his appearance.” The preposition מִן (min) here carries the sense “away from,” i.e., “so as not to be.” See BDB 583 s.v.

[57:17]  11 tn Heb “and I struck him, hiding, and I was angry.” פָּנַיִם (panayim, “face”) is the implied object of “hiding.”

[57:17]  12 tn Heb “and he walked [as an] apostate in the way of his heart.”

[60:5]  13 tn Or “shine,” or “be radiant” (NAB, NASB, NIV, NRSV).

[60:5]  14 tn Heb “and it will tremble and be wide, your heart.”

[60:5]  15 tn Heb “the wealth of the sea,” i.e., wealth that is transported from distant lands via the sea.
