[3:16]  1 tn Heb “daughters” (so KJV, NAB, NRSV).

[3:16]  2 tn Heb “with an outstretched neck.” They proudly hold their heads high so that others can see the jewelry around their necks.

[3:16]  3 tn Heb “walking and skipping, they walk.”

[3:16]  4 tn Heb “and with their feet they jingle.”

[19:22]  5 tn Heb “he will be entreated.” The Niphal has a tolerative sense here, “he will allow himself to be entreated.”

[22:13]  6 tn Heb “happiness and joy.”

[22:13]  7 tn The prophet here quotes what the fatalistic people are saying. The introductory “you say” is supplied in the translation for clarification; the concluding verb “we die” makes it clear the people are speaking. The six verbs translated as imperatives are actually infinitives absolute, functioning here as finite verbs.

[29:15]  8 tn Heb “Woe [to] those who deeply hide counsel from the Lord.” This probably alludes to political alliances made without seeking the Lord’s guidance. See 30:1-2 and 31:1.

[29:15]  9 tn Heb “and their works are in darkness and they say.”

[29:15]  10 tn The rhetorical questions suggest the answer, “no one.” They are confident that their deeds are hidden from others, including God.

[44:16]  11 tn Heb “eats” (so NASB); NAB, NRSV “roasts.”
