[26:8]  1 tn The Hebrew text has, “yes, the way of your judgments.” The translation assumes that “way” is related to the verb “we wait” as an adverbial accusative (“in the way of your judgments we wait”). מִשְׁפָּטֶיךָ (mishpatekha, “your judgments”) could refer to the Lord’s commandments, in which case one might translate, “as we obey your commands.” However, in verse 9 the same form refers to divine acts of judgment on evildoers.

[26:8]  2 tn Heb “your name and your remembrance [is] the desire of [our?] being.”

[33:8]  3 tn Or “desolate” (NAB, NASB); NIV, NRSV, NLT “deserted.”

[33:8]  4 tn Heb “the one passing by on the road ceases.”

[33:8]  5 tn Heb “one breaks a treaty”; NAB “Covenants are broken.”

[33:8]  6 tc The Hebrew text reads literally, “he despises cities.” The term עָרִים (’arim, “cities”) is probably a corruption of an original עֵדִים (’edim, “[legal] witnesses”), a reading that is preserved in the Qumran scroll 1QIsaa. Confusion of dalet (ד) and resh (ר) is a well-attested scribal error.

[33:8]  7 tn Heb “he does not regard human beings.”

[43:19]  8 tn Heb “sprouts up”; NASB “will spring forth.”

[43:19]  9 tn Or “know” (KJV, ASV); NASB “be aware of”; NAB, NIV, NRSV “perceive.”

[43:19]  10 tn The Hebrew texts has “streams,” probably under the influence of v. 20. The Qumran scroll 1QIsaa has נתיבות (“paths”).

[59:8]  11 tn Heb “a way of peace they do not know, and there is no justice in their pathways.”

[59:8]  12 tn Heb “their paths they make crooked, everyone who walks in it does not know peace.”
