Yesaya 2:8
Konteks2:8 Their land is full of worthless idols;
they worship 1 the product of their own hands,
what their own fingers have fashioned.
Yesaya 14:24
Konteks14:24 2 The Lord who commands armies makes this solemn vow:
“Be sure of this:
Just as I have intended, so it will be;
just as I have planned, it will happen.
Yesaya 45:2
Konteks45:2 “I will go before you
and level mountains. 3
Bronze doors I will shatter
and iron bars 4 I will hack through.
[2:8] 1 tn Or “bow down to” (NIV, NRSV).
[14:24] 2 sn Having announced the downfall of the Chaldean empire, the Lord appends to this prophecy a solemn reminder that the Assyrians, the major Mesopotamian power of Isaiah’s day, would be annihilated, foreshadowing what would subsequently happen to Babylon and the other hostile nations.
[45:2] 3 tc The form הֲדוּרִים (hadurim) makes little, if any, sense here. It is probably a corruption of an original הָרָרִים (hararim, “mountains”), the reduplicated form of הָר (har, “mountain”).
[45:2] 4 tn That is, on the gates. Cf. CEV “break the iron bars on bronze gates.”
