2:13 for all the cedars of Lebanon,

that are so high and mighty,

for all the oaks of Bashan; ¹

2:15 for every high tower,

for every fortified wall,

24:11 They howl in the streets because of what happened to the wine; ² 

all joy turns to sorrow; ³ 

celebrations disappear from the earth. ⁴ 

[2:13]  ¹ sn The cedars of Lebanon and oaks of Bashan were well-known for their size and prominence. They make apt symbols here for powerful men who think of themselves as prominent and secure.

[24:11]  ² tn Heb “[there is] an outcry over the wine in the streets.”

[24:11]  ³ tn Heb “all joy turns to evening,” the darkness of evening symbolizing distress and sorrow.

[24:11]  ⁴ tn Heb “the joy of the earth disappears.”
