Yesaya 2:11

2:11 Proud men will be brought low,

arrogant men will be humiliated; ¹ 

the Lord alone will be exalted ² 

in that day.

Yesaya 10:20

10:20 At that time ³  those left in Israel, those who remain of the family ⁴  of Jacob, will no longer rely on a foreign leader that abuses them. ⁵  Instead they will truly ⁶  rely on the Lord, the Holy One of Israel. ⁷ 

Yesaya 16:14

16:14 Now the Lord makes this announcement: “Within exactly three years ⁸  Moab’s splendor will disappear, along with all her many people; there will be just a few, insignificant survivors left.” ⁹ 

[2:11]  ¹ tn Heb “and the eyes of the pride of men will be brought low, and the arrogance of men will be brought down.” The repetition of the verbs שָׁפַל (shafal) and שָׁחָח (shakhakh) from v. 9 draws attention to the appropriate nature of the judgment. Those proud men who “bow low” before idols will be forced to “bow low” before God when he judges their sin.

[10:20]  ³ tn Or “in that day.” The verb that introduces this verse serves as a discourse particle and is untranslated; see note on “in the future” in 2:2.

[10:20]  ⁴ tn Heb “house” (so KJV, NASB, NIV, NRSV).

[10:20]  ⁵ tn Heb “on one who strikes him down.” This individual is the king (“foreign leader”) of the oppressing nation (which NLT specifies as “the Assyrians”).

[10:20]  ⁶ tn Or “sincerely”; KJV, ASV, NAB, NRSV “in truth.”

[10:20]  ⁷ sn See the note on the phrase “the Holy One of Israel” in 1:4.

[16:14]  ⁸ tn Heb “in three years, like the years of a hired worker.” The three years must be reckoned exactly, just as a hired worker would carefully keep track of the time he had agreed to work for an employer in exchange for a predetermined wage.

[16:14]  ⁹ tn Heb “and the splendor of Moab will be disgraced with all the great multitude, and a small little remnant will not be strong.”
