Yesaya 10:12

10:12 But when ¹  the sovereign master ²  finishes judging ³  Mount Zion and Jerusalem, then I ⁴  will punish the king of Assyria for what he has proudly planned and for the arrogant attitude he displays. ⁵

Yesaya 63:1

The Victorious Divine Warrior

63:1 Who is this who comes from Edom, ⁸ 

dressed in bright red, coming from Bozrah? ⁹ 

Who ¹⁰  is this one wearing royal attire, ¹¹ 

who marches confidently ¹²  because of his great strength?

“It is I, the one who announces vindication,

and who is able to deliver!” ¹³ 

[10:12]  ¹ tn The verb that introduces this verse serves as a discourse particle and is untranslated; see note on “in the future” in 2:2.

[10:12]  ² tn The Hebrew term translated “sovereign master” here and in vv. 16, 23, 24, 33 is אֲדֹנָי (’adonay).

[10:12]  ³ tn Heb “his work on/against.” Cf. NAB, NASB, NRSV “on”; NIV “against.”

[10:12]  ⁴ tn The Lord is speaking here, as in vv. 5-6a.

[10:12]  ⁵ tn Heb “I will visit [judgment] on the fruit of the greatness of the heart of the king of Assyria, and on the glory of the height of his eyes.” The proud Assyrian king is likened to a large, beautiful fruit tree.

[16:14]  ⁶ tn Heb “in three years, like the years of a hired worker.” The three years must be reckoned exactly, just as a hired worker would carefully keep track of the time he had agreed to work for an employer in exchange for a predetermined wage.

[16:14]  ⁷ tn Heb “and the splendor of Moab will be disgraced with all the great multitude, and a small little remnant will not be strong.”

[63:1]  ⁸ sn Edom is here an archetype for the Lord’s enemies. See 34:5.

[63:1]  ¹⁰ tn The interrogative particle is understood by ellipsis; note the first line of the verse.

[63:1]  ¹² tc The Hebrew text has צָעָה (tsa’ah), which means “stoop, bend” (51:14). The translation assumes an emendation to צָעַד (tsa’ad, “march”; see BDB 858 s.v. צָעָה).

[63:1]  ¹³ tn Heb “I, [the one] speaking in vindication [or “righteousness”], great to deliver.”
