[7:14]  1 tn The Hebrew word refers to the din or noise made by a crowd, and by extension may refer to the crowd itself.

[20:24]  2 tn The words “I did this” are not in the Hebrew text, but are supplied for stylistic reasons. Verses 23-24 are one long sentence in the Hebrew text. The translation divides this sentence into two for stylistic reasons.

[20:24]  3 tn Or “they worshiped” (NCV, TEV, CEV); Heb “their eyes were on” or “were after” (cf. v. 16).

[21:13]  4 tn Heb “For testing (will come) and what if also a scepter, it despises, will not be?” The translation understands the subject of the verb “despises,” which is a feminine form in the Hebrew text, to be the sword (which is a feminine noun) mentioned in the previous verses. The text is very difficult and any rendering is uncertain.

[28:7]  5 sn This is probably a reference to the Babylonians.

[28:7]  6 tn Heb “they will draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom.”
