Yeremia 39:1-2
Konteks39:1 King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon came against Jerusalem with his whole army and laid siege to it. The siege began in the tenth month of the ninth year that Zedekiah ruled over Judah. 7 39:2 It lasted until the ninth day of the fourth month of Zedekiah’s eleventh year. 8 On that day they broke through the city walls.
[5:12] 1 sn The judgment of plague and famine comes from the covenant curse (Lev 26:25-26). As in v. 10, the city of Jerusalem is figuratively addressed here.
[5:12] 2 sn Judgment by plague, famine, and sword occurs in Jer 21:9; 27:13; Ezek 6:11, 12; 7:15.
[26:33] 3 tn Heb “and I will empty sword” (see HALOT 1228 s.v. ריק 3).
[9:16] 5 tn Heb “I will send the sword after them.” The sword here is probably not completely literal but refers to death by violent means, including death by the sword.
[9:16] 6 sn He will destroy them but not completely. See Jer 5:18; 30:11; 46:28.
[39:1] 7 sn 2 Kgs 25:1 and Jer 52:4 give the more precise date of the tenth day of the tenth month of the ninth year which would have been Jan 15, 588
[39:2] 8 sn According to modern reckoning that would have been July 18, 586
