[3:9]  1 tn The Hebrew term translated “diamond” is parallel to “iron” in Jer 17:1. The Hebrew uses two terms which are both translated at times as “flint,” but here one is clearly harder than the other. The translation “diamond” attempts to reflect this distinction in English.

[3:9]  2 tn Heb “of their faces.”

[18:12]  3 sn The poor and needy are often mentioned together in the OT (Deut 24:14; Jer 22:16; Ezek 14:69; Ps 12:6; 35:10; 37:14).

[18:12]  4 tn Heb “lifts up his eyes.”

[27:7]  5 sn This is probably a reference to Cyprus.

[30:2]  6 tn Heb “Alas for the day.”

[30:11]  7 tn The Babylonians were known for their cruelty (2 Kgs 25:7).

[39:21]  8 tn Or “my glory.”

[39:21]  9 tn Heb “my hand which I have placed.”
