[6:22]  1 tn Heb “the Lord.” See note on the word “his” in v. 17.

[6:22]  2 tn Heb “house,” referring to the entire household.

[15:11]  3 tn The Hebrew text uses the infinitive absolute for emphasis, which the translation indicates with “make sure.”

[15:11]  4 tn Heb “your brother.”

[16:18]  5 tn The Hebrew term וְשֹׁטְרִים (vÿshoterim), usually translated “officers” (KJV, NCV) or “officials” (NAB, NIV, NRSV, NLT), derives from the verb שֹׁטֵר (shoter, “to write”). The noun became generic for all types of public officials. Here, however, it may be appositionally epexegetical to “judges,” thus resulting in the phrase, “judges, that is, civil officers,” etc. Whoever the שֹׁטְרִים are, their task here consists of rendering judgments and administering justice.

[16:18]  6 tn Heb “gates.”

[16:18]  7 tn Heb “with judgment of righteousness”; ASV, NASB “with righteous judgment.”

[23:25]  8 sn For the continuation of these practices into NT times see Matt 12:1-8; Mark 2:23-28; Luke 6:1-5.

[24:3]  9 tn Heb “hates.” See note on the word “other” in Deut 21:15.

[32:17]  12 tn Heb “your fathers.”

[33:13]  13 tn Heb “from the harvest of the heavens.” The referent appears to be good crops produced by the rain that falls from the sky.

[33:19]  14 tn Or “acceptable”; Heb “righteous” (so NASB).

[33:19]  15 tn Heb “suck.”

[33:19]  16 tn Heb “of the sand” (so NRSV, NLT); CEV “the sandy beach.”
