Lamentations 3:18

3:18 So I said, “My endurance has expired;

I have lost all hope of deliverance ¹  from the Lord.”

Psalms 88:6

88:6 You place me in the lowest regions of the pit, ² 

in the dark places, in the watery depths.

Ezekiel 37:11

37:11 Then he said to me, “Son of man, these bones are all the house of Israel. Look, they are saying, ‘Our bones are dry, our hope has perished; we are cut off.’

[3:18]  ¹ tn Heb “and my hope from the Lord.” The hope is for deliverance. The words, “I have lost all…” have been supplied in the translation in order to clarify the Hebrew idiom for the English reader.

[88:6]  ² tn The noun בּוֹר (bor, “pit,” “cistern”) is sometimes used of the grave and/or the realm of the dead. See v. 4.
