Mazmur 106:46-48

106:46 He caused all their conquerors 1 

to have pity on them.

106:47 Deliver us, O Lord, our God!

Gather us from among the nations!

Then we will give thanks 2  to your holy name,

and boast about your praiseworthy deeds. 3 

106:48 The Lord God of Israel deserves praise, 4 

in the future and forevermore. 5 

Let all the people say, “We agree! 6  Praise the Lord!” 7

The word זִמְרָת (zimrat) is traditionally understood as meaning “song,” in which case one might translate, “for the Lord gives me strength and joy” (i.e., a reason to sing); note that in v. 5 the verb זָמַר (zamar, “sing”) appears. Many recent commentators, however, have argued that the noun is here instead a homonym, meaning “protection” or “strength.” See HALOT 274 s.v. III *זמר.
