Nehemia 9:29

Konteks
9:29 And you solemnly admonished them in order to return them to your law, but they behaved presumptuously and did not obey your commandments. Nehemia 2:19

Konteks
2:19 But when Sanballat the Horonite, Tobiah the Ammonite official, and Geshem the Arab heard all this, 4  they derided us and expressed contempt toward us. They said, “What is this you are doing? Are you rebelling against the king?”

Nehemia 9:26

[9:29]  1 tn Heb “if a man keep.” See note on the word “obey” in Neh 1:5.

[9:29]  2 tn Heb “they gave a stubborn shoulder.”

[9:29]  3 tn Heb “they stiffened their neck.”

[2:19]  4 tn The Hebrew text does not include the words “all this,” but they have been added in the translation for clarity.

[9:26]  5 tn Heb “they cast your law behind their backs.”

[6:6]  6 tn Heb “heard.”

[6:6]  7 tn Heb “Gashmu”; in Neh 2:19 this name appears as Geshem. Since it is important for the modern reader to recognize that this is the same individual, the form of the name used here in the translation is the same as that in v. 19.

[6:6]  8 tn Heb “is saying.”

[6:6]  9 tn Heb “words.” So also in v. 7.

[9:17]  10 tc The present translation follows a few medieval Hebrew MSS and the LXX in reading בְּמִצְרָיִם (bÿmitsrayim, “in Egypt”; so also NAB, NASB, NRSV, TEV, NLT) rather than the MT reading בְּמִרְיָם (bÿmiryam, “in their rebellion”).

[9:17]  11 tc The translation follows the Qere reading חֶסֶד (khesed, “loyal love”) rather than the Kethib reading וְחֶסֶד (vÿkhesed, “and loyal love”) of the MT.

[1:8]  12 tn Heb “peoples.”
