[90:11]  1 tn Heb “Who knows the strength of your anger?”

[90:11]  2 tn Heb “and like your fear [is] your raging fury.” Perhaps one should emend וּכְיִרְאָתְךְ (ukhyirotekh, “and like your fear”) to יִרְאָתְךְ (yirotkh, “your fear”), understanding a virtual dittography (אַפֶּךָ וּכְיִרְאָתְךְ, ’apekha ukhyirotekh) to have occurred. In this case the psalmist asserts “your fear [is] your raging fury,” that is, your raging fury is what causes others to fear you. The suffix on “fear” is understood as objective.

[22:24]  3 tn Or “affliction”; or “need.”

[22:24]  4 sn In this verse the psalmist refers to himself in the third person and characterizes himself as oppressed.

[22:24]  5 tn Heb “he did not hide his face from him.” For other uses of the idiom “hide the face” meaning “ignore,” see Pss 10:11; 13:1; 51:9. Sometimes the idiom carries the stronger idea of “reject” (see Pss 27:9; 88:14).

[22:24]  6 tn Heb “heard.”

[66:20]  7 tn Heb “blessed [be] God.”

[66:20]  8 tn Or “who.” In a blessing formula after בָּרוּךְ (barukh, “blessed be”) the form אֲשֶׁר (’asher), whether taken as a relative pronoun or causal particle, introduces the basis for the blessing/praise.

[66:20]  9 tn Heb “did not turn aside my prayer and his loyal love with me.”

[89:7]  10 tn Heb “feared.”

[89:7]  11 tn Heb “in the great assembly of the holy ones.”

[89:7]  12 tn Or perhaps “feared by.”

[102:15]  13 tn Heb “will fear the name of the Lord.” To “fear” God’s name means to have a healthy respect for his revealed reputation which in turn motivates one to obey God’s commands (see Ps 86:11).

[102:15]  14 tn The verb “will fear” is understood by ellipsis in the second line (see the preceding line).
