Mazmur 59:4

59:4 Though I have done nothing wrong, ¹  they are anxious to attack. ² 

Spring into action and help me! Take notice of me! ³

66:13 I will enter ⁴  your temple with burnt sacrifices;

I will fulfill the vows I made to you,

Mazmur 118:12

118:12 They surrounded me like bees.

But they disappeared as quickly ⁵  as a fire among thorns. ⁶ 

Indeed, in the name of the Lord I pushed them away.

[59:4]  ² tn Heb “they run and they are determined.”

[59:4]  ³ tn Heb “arise to meet me and see.” The Hebrew verb קָרָא (qara’, “to meet; to encounter”) here carries the nuance of “to help.”

[66:13]  ⁴ sn Here the psalmist switches to the singular; he speaks as the representative of the nation.

[118:12]  ⁵ tn Heb “were extinguished.”

[118:12]  ⁶ tn The point seems to be that the hostility of the nations (v. 10) is short-lived, like a fire that quickly devours thorns and then burns out. Some, attempting to create a better parallel with the preceding line, emend דֹּעֲכוּ (do’akhu, “they were extinguished”) to בָּעֲרוּ (ba’aru, “they burned”). In this case the statement emphasizes their hostility.
